Classic dilemma… Santos or Dumont?

After considering this purchase for over a year, I’m finally going to pull the trigger on either the Cartier Santos or Dumont. I like how the Santos is more versatile outfit-wise. But that Dumont strap is fantastic.

Also going back and forth one silver vs two-tone.

I have a pretty big wrist, but think both fit pretty well. Curious for the community’s take on both.

For me I'd take the two tone Dumont on the strap.

·

Santos and get a black strap. You truly won’t go wrong with either.

·

I love both watches. But if I had to choose one over the other, I would choose the Santos with bracelet. But that’s just me.
I quote a wise man @HotWatchChick69 said to me once - “whichever watch makes you feel more when you see it, then choose it!”.

My thinking as well.

My thinking as well.

You can get reasonable after market straps for either.

Are there after market straps with the Cartier quick-swap?

Santos is every day classic and elegant.  Dress it up or t-shirt and shorts it's a hit

·

Man imagine being so famous and rich you had two watches made for you!🫢

·

My brain says stainless steel Santos, but I will say that the Dumont looks stunning and fits your wrist nicely.

·

I‘ll get both! 😉

·

Santos always. The Dumont isnt even close

·

Santos and then order a leather strap.

·

This is a tough one because I like the Dumont better aesthetically, but I just think the Santos is more versatile. The Dumont can basically only work as a dress watch while the Santos can be dressed down a bit given the sportier look. I use my Galbee (I have very slender wrists and prefer that tiny size) with everything from a suit to a more causal polo.

I have the santos de Cartier and it is my favorite watch in my collection. Delugs sells straps for it with The quick switch, but as a heads up they start at $200 each (more if you want alligator, shell cordovan, etc.) but they have a ton of options for leather materials or styles to choose from. I have two of them on order that I am just waiting for them to be made (they are all made to order).

With that in mind I think it really depends on how much you value the bracelet and having the option to wear it on the bracelet. I think the watch is very dressy on a leather strap but quite sporty on bracelet so you get a bit more versatility that way. If you think you will wear it on leather most of the time anyway you will save a bunch of money by getting the Dumont

I purchased the blue Santos on a bracelet and it came with a strap, so confirm whether the watches you are looking at also include a strap with a bracelet.

The Santos because of the bracelet and leather strap options. I own one and I always prefer my watches on bracelet too.

Delugs has them. They’re currently sold out and will start selling again in July

·

You and I were in the same situation a month ago, but I unfortunately got both of them 😄

If you can only get one, the Steel Santos is a better buy. That bracelet is very unique and you can still get the Dumont look by switching out to an alligator strap. Not an exact copy, but close enough.

Santos all day. Swap the bracelet out with a Delugs Santos-specific leather and rock on.

·

I definitely lean Santos as well.  How was your in store experience at Cartier?

I had the same dilemma. I pushed the button on the dumont but they didn’t have it in and it was on order. I went to another AD and bought an IWC portofino moonphase (but that’s another story) and cancelled my Dumont. This left me with a Cartier itch that never went away until I bought the Santos which is so classic and stunning. I still like the Dumont but something about the dial (it’s much finer numerals) put me off. At the end of the day both watches are great and it’s your choice.
