Help finding a strap for my grandfather's Bulova Accutron Quartz watch (17.5mm lug width)

I'm having a difficult time finding an aesthetically pleasing strap for my (now-deceased) grandfather's very-1982 styled Bulova Accutron Quartz watch. The search has been especially difficult since the watch's lug width appears to be 17.5mm.

I plan on getting the battery and crystal replaced and the case lightly polished, but have been at a loss about how to replace the strap. I'm not particularly fond of leather straps, either, but realize that this may be the best option given the circumstances.

Can y'all help point me in the direction of something that would jive with my grandpa's watch?🙏

Given it tucks under, maybe consider filing down an 18mm? Or cutting a leather one carefully to fit? At a pinch, curved 18mm spring bars and a black or brown perlon strap might work.

If you’re feeling irreverent, try a light grey suede to compliment the dial.

🙄 don’t take it as advice was just the first thing that came to mind.

 Good luck!

If you don't like leather, a single pass 18mm nylon strap should fit ok?

And are you sure the original strap isn't repairable?

The original bracelet (pictured) is too small for me, unfortunately, and the links flex so much that they chomp off arm hair like Cookie Monster chomps on cookies.

You should be able to take 18mm spring bars and slightly bend them

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm hesitant to do so but may not have another option.

I did this one one of my vintage 1976 Bulova's. 1/2 a millimeter isn't much
