Who does it better?

This is an endless debate. So let put it to an end WC. What is the best Chronograph? Is it the Speedmaster with the space history, the Daytona with the cool factor or the El Primero with the movement? Or do you have your own favorite? Let me know what you have or which one you like the most.

Well done, two strong choices. I like Carrera a little more. It's so clean. Thank you for your take.

Solid pick. It's a great looking manual wind.

Best is ofcourse highly subjective but if I try to be as objective as possible, The Daytona is probably the best. Reason is because: 1) Ergonomics, I feel the 40mm size and thinness of the Daytona vs the thicker and larger Speedmaster or thicker Zenith is going to simply suit more wrists and therefore work for more people and please more people. 2) Movement: The Rolex 4130 and now the 4230 Calibers are highly accurate and reliable. Automatic movements are probably again the preference for the majority of the population (not just watch guys). 3) Practicality, the Rolex has a 100m water resistance and solid shock resistance along with antimagnetism along with an absolute beauty of a bracelet with micro adjustment. The bracelet or the Zenith is decent but lacking and whilst the Speedmaster has recently implemented a small microadjust feature, still not as useable as the Daytona.

4. and you will never get one

People do get one (including myself). It is for all intents and purposes a mass produced watch and there are many of them Produced. it’s not easy but it’s possible.

Very good points. The Daytona is a solid pick. I like and wear Rolex but I feel the Daytona wears smaller than 40mm and is the least appealing of the 3 dials. Add in the fact it basically unattainable. It didn't get my vote.

The correct answer is the Navitimer, everyone knows that.

I didn't Andrew but I do now. I know it's really popular watch. I get it but for the record and transparency I'm not a fan of the Navitimer at all.

“The Daytona wouldn’t exist without the Zenith…Rolex is simply better at marketing”

That’s a very superficial way of looking at it: some act like Rolex just dropped in a stock El Primero 400 movement, similar to how Omega used ETA movements before the coax; where in fact Rolex took the El Primero base and made more than 200 patented changes/improvements to the El Primero, including completely chucking and replacing several parts to the point it was pretty much a different movement in comparison by the time they were done with it, and christened it the 4030, a significantly better movement (and watch) than the El Primero 400 it was based on. That’s more than just “marketing”, that’s watchmaking.

Okay okay, I stand corrected. Like I said "Newbie" 😉

Fair enough brother. Be careful not to fall prey to group-think in your growth, there’s a specific crowd who love to erroneously preach Rolex is good for nothing but “marketing” after watching one too many of the wrong YT channels. There’s a lot to enjoy (of all brands and price-points) and to learn if you dig just a little further below the surface. 🍻

I'm definitely not a Rolex hater. I realize that they are the big boys for a reason. There are actually a few models I'm actually a fan of like the Sea-Dweller and Sky-Dweller.

For me, it would be one of these guys:

The speedmaster looks great in multiple variations. not just black and white... sometimes green, blue, checkered (tintin) and more... its design goes very far

·

The zenith el Primero was released January 10 1959.

·

The Zenith El Primero was the first automatic chronograph on the made.

·

The production of the Zenith El Primero stopped in 1975 because quarts watch we're more popular.

·

Rolex used the Zenith el Primero movement in the Daytona chronograph starting in 1988.

·

In the 1990's the Zenith El Primero started using an open caseback to highlight the movement.

·

In 1997 the Zenith El Primero was named for the Rainbow and was used the French Airforce.

·

In 2017 Zenith launched the Defy El Primero 21.

·

My favorite is the Citizen Bullhead 8110 that I'm still hunting down

·

The Zenith design is the only one that really sticks in my brain. Something about it is just such a yes for me.
