I don't typically like to dwell on watch scratches, and I ultimately don't look into it too much. However, I've only had this watch for a year and I always wonder, how scratched will this clasp be in 10-20 years from now?

I have a desk job, so my clasps tend to get pretty scratched up. I started using a small (5"x12") swatch of leather as a desk mat where my watch hand tends to rest. It seems to have helped a lot. It doesn't interfere with my work flow, and provides a much more watch friendly surface to let the clasp sit on.ย

That's very smart!

I need to do this, because my clasps all get scratched quickly for the same reason.ย
Mehh. Nothing wrong with a little desk rash.ย
For me the finish of the clasp seems to make a big difference. Iโve had my Black Bay 58 for a couple of weeks and the brushed finish is only showing one or two small scratches so far, but within the same amount of time my Datejust, which has a polished clasp, was covered in scratches. I spend all day โworkingโ at a desk so I havenโt really done anything different with the two watches.
ย I use a green Scotch Brite pad to rebrush the clasps on my Citizen bracelets from time to time and they turn out decent.
Donโt have the intestinal fortitude to try this out on my more expensive watches though. I bought a Garryflex grey abrasive block to try out on them but so far too chicken to do it.
