Watches and Wonders

As a newer watch enthusiast, I've heard many watch personalities and writers talk about Watches and Wonders. It seemed like an interesting event so I looked into the brands represented at the event.

Here's the full list of confirmed brands that exhibited at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023: A. Lange & Söhne, Alpina, Angelus, Arnold & Son, Baume & Mercier, Beauregard, Bell & Ross, Cartier, Chanel, Charles Zuber, Charriol, Chopard, Chronoswiss, Cyrus Genève, Czapek & Cie., Ferdinand Berthoud, Frederique Constant, Grand Seiko, Grönefeld, Hautlence, Hermès, Hublot, Hysek, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Kerbedanz, Laurent Ferrier, Louis Moinet, Montblanc, Oris, Panerai, Parmigiani Fleurier, Patek Philippe, Pequignet, Piaget, Rebellion Timepieces, Ressence, Roger Dubuis, Rolex, Rudis Sylva, Speake-Marin, TAG Heuer, Trilobe, Tudor, U-Boat, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Zenith.

How many of these brands do you own currently or historically? If so, which brands?

Personally, I have never owned a watch from any of the 49 brands represented at Watches and Wonders 2023 even though I do own watches from established brands like #longines, #hamilton, and others. So while interesting for the many luxury collectors, I guess I haven't gotten to that part of my collecting journey.

Two for me (Grand Seiko and Oris) but planning on Trilobe and Lange for next major birthday/anniversary or professional milestones (Lange will be my exit watch probably so that’s not happening for a while). There are side shows for other brands. Like I know Hajime Asaoka and Kurono are there but may not be officially exhibiting as part of the main event.

I have been collecting (seriously) for 15+ years. If I share my collections that present at W&W, please promise me that you won’t call me a show off, i enjoy all watches and i do not want to be part of the flexing culture 😆

No judgment here. I'm just wondering how many of us watch nerds are truly impacted by a W&W brand that we have or might purchase. I find the event as interesting as the next guy, but I'm always interested in learning about the different collecting tiers, marketing strategies, and everything in the industry and hobby.

The whole show is set up for the luxury market to sell luxury. Most here are interested in the content but it ends there. If your rich enough fair play and you can play their game. Your question is a means test most here will not play. My money is in real estate and watches almost never appreciate enough to interest me more than novelty.

Wow! Glanced at your profile and what’s on wrist pix - damn Daniel! You’ve got all the big names.

very interested in that we are micro wrist twins … and you wear some watches that I thought were way too big for me.

the corum bubbles, the octo, the milguass, even the casioak I’d assumed are all too big.

The ‘effective’ lug to lug is quite large on some of those owing to the way the band comes off.

I dislike when there’s any gap, and prefer a snug fit.

Consider doing a “big watches that wear well on small wrists post” sometime. Don’t worry re flexing, I’ve not tried on most of those brands and would genuinely want to know how they wear.

Also, we’ve so many whales on this site, that whale you would be more of a pilot whale than a large baleen whale 😉

I’ve got Seiko, GS, Kurono, Oris, Zodiac and Rado.

And content from W&W that I now want… well, another GS 😂. Yup, crazy me.

But Most of the W&W content is Uber watches with Uber prices that aren’t worth me doing anymore than gawking at, rather than thinking seriously about!

Thank you for your kind words, never thought of show big watches on small wrist because! Awesome idea 😄
