First Watch Memories

I came across this article today about suggested first watches.

The list includes some great watches, but it got me thinking about my first watches. I had a bunch of character-themed watches and Casios as a child, but I think my first serious watch was a Fossil I received as a Christmas gift. As far as my first collection watch, I think that was my Orient Kanno, which is still in my rotation.

My first was actually a Seiko Mini Turtle. The blue model they released (at the time) only at Macy's. The SRPC39 if memory serves me right. Don't have the watch any more & I kick myself for selling it. The blue variants nowadays are really hard to come across online (Not all beat to hell) for a decent price. I always keep my eyes peeled though.

My first was a Timex Sprite but I can't remember what year I got it. So I got one, 1967, a year ago and refurbished it and put it on a bund strap so it wouldn't look lost. It's one of favourites and it's a keeper.

My first automatic was a Heritor which broke and I exchanged for a Cadola Noumea, which I sold and bought -- finally -- an Orient Ray II.

So, I consider the Orient my official first automatic/collection watch.

My first watch was a Fossil given to me as a gift, and I lost it about 6 months later. My first watch when I became interested in watches as a young adult was this Stauer that my dad bought me. 13 years later I am still enjoying it.

I am very late to this discussion but my first proper watch I bought when I was 13, a plain blue Sekonda for about £60, saving up from my £2.50 an hour job mopping up the floor at the chippy on a Friday after school. Simple, cheap, and I rarely wear it, but one of 2 watches I own that I will never ever sell.
