Infant Watch Recommendations?

My brother is just having his first grandson and they are naming him after my Dad. I am thinking about getting the Grandson a watch that his Father can wear while he is growing up and can have it when he is old enough. I am not thinking something like a Daytona or Patek (but that would be nice!), but something that is timeless and cost between $300-$500 - and would consider both new and vintage but something from his birth year would be special. Is there such a watch? What watch would you recommend?

What watch did your Dad wear? Maybe give him a modern interpretation of that one, so you keep the same kind of watch passed down from generation to generation.

OK, I need coffee. I was reading your headline thinking about tiny automatic watches for baby wrists. NOW, I get it.

One of the last watches my Dad had was a Stauer, so not sure I want to take his lead. I do have a South Bend pocket watch from 1905 from my Dad but I think I iwll leave that one for later!

I think a Tissot or Certina would make for a nice, heritage-filled, Swiss automatic that's both affordable and worth passing down. They have plenty of nice options for under $500. And although it's not Swiss, there are plenty of fantastic Seikos out there.

One of my favorites is the Tissot Le Locle series, but pretty much only for the amazing case back.

Here are two different watches pulled right from my "Watches I Want" wish list on Amazon. 🙂

Pick up a Certina DSPH500m and foster a love for the sea. Wait, maybe that’s bad advice… and it’s a little over budget.

What about a Hamilton khaki? Or perhaps a vintage Omega Seamaster, a 1950s small seconds bumper movement, though you’ll have to shop around a bit for that one. It would also depend on the personality he grows with. I wouldn’t give a vintage omega to anybody who didn’t have an appreciation for mechanical devices, due to the care required to keep such a watch safe.

Perhaps something more durable, there’s the Laco pilot watch, I believe the base model (Aachen 42) sits somewhere around €340.

Some other options are the orient Kamasu and Kano, Citizen Promaster Automatic, Seiko Presage “Cocktail Time” or “Blue Moon” with the lovely ope heart. Laco Casablanca, and countless offerings from micro brands.

I’m assuming that you’re not interested in micros? If you are, I might suggest the Baltic HMS002.

I would go with the Lorier's. Vintage look, slick advertising, automatic https://www.lorierwatches.com/collections/shop
