Help me choose: BB54 or Pelagos 42

Tudor BB54 or Pelagos 42 Blue?

I'm having trouble choosing. I will be finishing my bachelor's degree in a year and would like to buy a Tudor watch as a reward. I'll have to save up a lot for the watch, so I wouldn't mind a cheaper piece. Anyway, I've liked the BB58 for a long time, but I've found that the sandblasted case, titanium, matchless clasp and date on the Pelagos sounds better to me. This year, my choice changed that slightly as the BB54 came out. I like the vintage look and improved clasp on these over the BB58. Also, the smaller size would be nice. I think I like the BB54 better and the fact that I can wear them with a suit is great. Anyway, I could really use a date on the Pelagos and they aren't bad looking either. On the other hand, I only have two pieces in my collection at the moment and neither of them have a date. Finally, I guess I would add that I own Lorier Neptune IIIs that have a similar look to BB54s and Pelagos would, so they would stand out in my collection. What would you choose if you were me?

BB54!! Wearable in many more situations. Congrats!

If I were you, since you will be waiting approximately a year if I'm not mistaken according to your post, I would wait until Tudor launches newer models at W&W 2024 because I suspect BB58 would see some improvements like thinner casing, bracelets incorporating T-fit clasps and hopefully METAS certification... but, of course, if you also require a date function, then Pelagos is a no brainer.

·

Can't go wrong with any of that but ı prefer bb54

·

BB54 is more of an all occasion watch.

·

I would go with the blue Pelagos

·

BB54. You make a good point about it better matching with a suit. it’s the most versatile of the three.

·

It depends on what you use it for but the blue looks pretty nice!

·

If there is a Tudor AD near you, see if you can try on a Pelagos 42 and check if the dimensions fit your wrist.

Obviously this comes down to personal choice because they’re both excellent watches. I prefer the Pelagos for its more modern aesthetic and flat colour way.

·

Oh that blue........👍👍💯

·

Have you tried any of these on? Maybe head over to an AD and see which you think looks better on your wrist.

·

BB54. No date all the way Lol

·

BB54 is *way* more versatile. How big is your wrist?

·

Other than all three tell the time, the watches are completely different. Go find a dealer, try them on, and figure out which one you like best. (Or, get all three!)

·

Just want a steel Pelegos myself. 🤔

·

Pelagos. Great tool. And the shameful snowflake hands compliment the dial better.

·

Neither. Go for the BB58.

Nope, I haven't.

I think that’s key…I’ve tried pretty much everything in the BB lineup on minus the 54 and determined 41mm is for me…the one that wears totally different is the Pelagos titanium…so light…just can’t get that from pics/videos

·

Pelagos, with the titanium case. I have 17 cm wrist but for me it's a bit big

That's awesome watch, but I would still prefer a new one.

Old watches do come with some baggage. I did buy my blue bb58 and bb58 925 brand new, so I can totally sympathize.

BB54 all the way for me

That is a tough question. I was sucker for BB58 for a while. After a few months I discovered a Pelagos and I thought that it fits me better according to specs. The matt finish, titanium, date, superb clasp etc.. But this year I found the BB54 and I really like the vintage design and the upgraded clasp. To sum it up I would say that I like the BB58 and BB54 on design side a bit more but I love the technologies and tool side of Pelagos.

Based off your response I would maybe go for the BB 58 or 54. Hopefully this year Tudor upgrades the clasp of the 58 to match the quick adjust features in their newer models.

For what it’s worth, my Blue 58 is my favorite watch and it’s not even close. This is taking into account the fact I despise the lack of quick adjust.

Here is a curveball, look at the SLA071 Landmaster. All titanium and the dial is a masterpiece

We had a similar thread before and I think the handset better matches the Pelagos indices as the snowflake hour hand complements them rather than clashing as they do on the BBs.

So definitely agree that the Pelagos has the better aesthetics and this is a principal reason why.

·

Love em both, but I think the BB54 is more versatile. Looks killer with the rubber strap too!

·

If your wrist can accomidate the Pelagos 42, I'd go for it. Have loved mine since purhasing earlier this year. Its a true do anything watch and that blue really pops. This is shown on my 71/4 inch wrist.

So today I visited AD and tried Pelagos 42 and BB58. With the Black Bay I liked the bezel with great operation and sound. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the Pelagos as it went stiff and even jammed. I don't know if it was a broken piece, but it ruined my overall impression. After this visit I would probably go for the BB54, although I haven't tried them yet.

·

The Pelagos looks sweet on the wrist. Very very hard to beat IMHO. I like it much better than the BB. You will likey end up with both eventually anyway, like most of us here lol

Not being a Tudor fan, if I had to chose, I’d buy the one with the deep red bezel. It’s the only one I could bear to wear. 🤣
