Can’t find another one like this

Hi guys! I’m new on WatchCrunch! I love this community already! I recently picked up this watch and I love it. I’m only concerned about a small detail. Watching online the reference number I found pictures of similar models as this one but in everyone there is the logo stamped above the writing “universal Geneve”. All the parts of mine serms to be legit except for this small detail. The dial is not in wonderful condition but I can’t understand if the universal logo is been erased or the dial is aftermarket.

Can someone help me find out?

By the way I payed only few bucks for this piece and I’m not too concerned, I ask just for my knowledge! Thanks!

Unfortunately I'm not a vintage expert, but just wanted to say welcome. I'm sure one of the other guys will see this and help you out.

Thanks! I’m addicted to vintage watches and this one sit on the wrist very well!

Welcome, I'm not into vintage either, I know that UG was a great brand that was related to fine watchmaking like Patek and Breguet, plus I think they were the ones who invented the micro rotor, I hope someone who knows more can help you

That dial is very old with the cracked lacquer and if it was refinished then that was done a long time ago. Old watches are a bit more fragile so avoid using it as a daily driver.

Thanks for the advice! I use modern watches as a daily drivers, vintage are a little treat that I sometimes wear because I love them so much!

Great looking little watch… I have many Universal watches… they are high quality and can be worn daily if you have a fairly relaxed job. I wouldn’t use a jack hammer or do any downhill mountain biking…

Otherwise.. go for it. I wear mine daily.

It sure looks like they started up there with some cleaner that was too aggressive for the printing. Notice how the edges of the nearby 11 & 12 are somewhat erased.

It was also my theory

Actually I work as a cameraman and I’m not always in the best condition😂 I prefer wearing in more relaxed situation!

The watch at first glance looks legit as Shadow C shaped case, serial stamping and hands too but this one is without micro rotor movement. But the dial logo is most likely not original, either missing something or bad after stamp. Would say bad restauration/cleaning job. Is the logo on the crown same as on caseback? Logo design can tell you more about period of the watch

The logo is the same on crown and case back yes!

Then from the logo on caseback, crown and 42 movement you can at least get app. year ( 60s or so).

https://universalgeneve.info/content/17-logos

Later variations were 1-42 and 2-42.

But still the dial is wrong/not complete. I have seen models without logo but those are written in two rows, not single. I would assume the logo was wiped off at certain point, at cleaning or restauration gone bad.

Bad restoration dial job on a sleeper UG model - this breaks my heart.

If you want to move it on drop me a line.

Some of those had applied logos so it could have fallen off.
