How do you feel about repainted dials?

I recently found and purchased this professionally painted vintage King Seiko and was blown away by the fume green dial. I was just wondering how others felt about repainted dials on vintage watches.

Looks awesome!

It's your watch, your money, you're free to do whatever you please. 👍

These 60s-70s KS aren't exactly rare or outrageously expensive relics of the past so I don't think customization is a big deal. Could be different if we're talking about something truly rare and limited worth preserving.

If it does not destroy a clean original dial or is misrepresented as "original" why not?

Looks fantastic TY. You will find 2 campa: purists & non-purists. Some will admonish you because they are the watch police and others will celebrate you purchasing a watch that you like and looks great.

Show it off; it's a beautiful dial 💯.

My dials will never be touched, and my cases will never be polished.

To each their own.

Really depends on the watch.

If it is a classic reference...don't touch the dial.

On the other hand, if it is a fun watch like the 1950s Chronographe Suisse watches that were sold as businessmen's souvenirs of a visit to Switzerland, then go for it if the dial needs it.

Here is a beautiful example of a repainted dial that was done perfect to original specs...reaonably priced...and well documented that it was repainted...still it's beautiful...

To each their own.

The ONLY reason people say not to do it is because it MIGHT affect resale value. But if one doesn't give a rip about resale value or the watch doesn't really have any to begin with, then I see no problem with it.

There's no official Council of Acceptable Actions passing official & sacrosanct rules about what one can do with the watches owned by individuals.

It's just a bunch of crochety old farts trying to be gatekeepers & telling us that their way is the only way.

do what you want with your own watches! but for me it’s meh. like, do it to a seiko and yes. a vintage seamaster, not for me.

That looks amazing my friend 👌❤️I would like you buy a beautiful watch like that even though its not all original, and I would and am getting my 45gs restored, but wouldn't touch other ones like my gs first so best of all worlds, live and let live and do as you do,that's the best looking KS I've seen that's all that matters 👍

I would only care if the dial is just in trash condition or very water damaged. If it’s only minor stuff, then I would leave it well alone

I own 2 Vintage Redials, one Grand Seiko and 1 Seiko Lord Marvel, both beautifully done. I'm ok with the idea, but I know some people don't like it and feel it depreciates the watch... my take is, if you like how it looks, then it's OK enjoy it.
