I have made a decision.

For a while now I have been feeling like this watch is not me. I don't know if you have ever had this. I really like the watch, it is well made, precise and robust, but I could never get over the vintage looks. I went back and forth.

Now, after having worn the Pelagos FXD, I realize, that I can get everything I like about the Tudor (Build quality, strong lume, amazing water-resistance & cool design) just from another watch in their line up.

(Also my girlfriend has the BB54 so if ever I feel like I want a vintage inspired watch, I can take hers haha)

So the Blackbay 58 will leave my collection. I will sell it and hope that a watch enthousiaste such as ourselves will wear and be happy with it.

PS: the Pelagos will also be the summer watch i was looking for ;) and if you are interested, let me know.

I know what you mean. I tried on the 41mm a few years back. I liked it a lot, but there was something about the gilt hands etc that just made me think “not for me”

I was in the same boat as you. I had lusted after the BB58 in blue and finally got around to buying it last October fully intending it to be a forever watch. After about 8 months I stopped wearing it and decided to let it go.

·

I had a 39mm explorer for 2 weeks and traded it for a santos. Sometimes things don’t feel like you even if it’s super quality and highly regarded. Follow your heart

I seem to remember a conversation that I had about this very subject.

Just before the global pandemic I gave my 15 year old 44mm Breitling Chronomat with a shiny pilot style bracelet to my older daughter who was determined to visit Africa. My younger daughter growing up would slip on my watches just lying around our home, wanted a Breitling but cannot carry off the large chronographs, one day saw my new BB 58 which is just about uni sex took off with her mom’s permission. She and her husband visited last night for dinner, left her BB58 on the bureau in my small study with a note. She has her eye on a few Breitlings in my box that can work with a rubber strap, she can wait, lol. I need to locate the links that I removed from the bracelet with the fake rivets. That is a wonderful watch. I will enjoy wearing it again.

Sucks it didn’t work out for you. But if your not feeling it time to go! No point in spending that kind of cash on a paper weight!

·

DM me! I might be… cheers

Yeah, follow your heart. Some things just don't click, no matter how good they are.

The gilt doesn't do it for me either. Congrats on the FXD that thing is brilliant

The vintage look isn't really for everyone to be honest. I think boomers appreciate them a lot more because along the way, either through friends or movies, they've seen vintage watches and seeing one makes one feel like reliving the past.

The same goes for the Black Bay 54. I did consider replacing my BB58 for the BB54, but then I knew I'd have to sell my BB58 cheap and come up with the extra cash. It could still happen!

Sounds very plausible :)

You guys make some good points and some that i can't agree with :p (of course otherwise it wouldn't be fun haha)

IN the end i didn't buy it because i wanted a Tudor or a submariner. I bought it (3 years ago) because it combined a lot of things for me. Perfect size, no date, overall good design (except the golden accents) and a good price (for me). I liked it very much but my taste simply changed. Maybe not for the best haha

If you feel that way then it makes sense to move it on. 💯

Perhaps you are correct and that as time gets along, our needs change. As I get older, I'm definitely going to wear less of some of my timepieces. I think those that will still be in rotation are the datejust 12634, my GS Quartz, a gshock GM-S2100 and my Deepstar II
