If I slap a Seiko logo on a modded watch, am I a horrible person?

I have been modding for about a year now, and I've been enjoying it. I use the NH35 and put it into many different case types. The combination of case, dials, and hands can get you a look similar to iconic watches, eg submariner, skx, black bay, etc.

I usually purchase dials from China and they typical come with a "SEIKO" logo. If I slap a Seiko logo on a modded watch, am I a horrible person?

If you enjoy the watch for what it is, then it's all that matters. It's your custom built, fun little hobby and you should be proud of that. Any watch nerd will instantly know this isn't an official Seiko dial, but to 99% of muggles out there it makes no difference.

OMG.... you are the worst person I've ever...... Just kidding. I do the same thing. In fact my post yesterday was one of my creations with one of the notorious "Seiko" dials from AliExpress lol. No worries. Built what you love, that's what I say.

No…….. you’re a watch modder! 👍🏻

·

Not at all no, go for it. BUT if selling then be straight up about it !

·

I do the same. Seiko logo. If you sell it, you can tell the buyer you built it but it still has a Seiko movement inside. It is not like your are putting a Seiko movement with rolex dial.

·

Personally I'd go for the Relax dial, but I have the same stance I do on on complete watches - copy the branding too!

I am sure the purist will disagree. The Seiko watch club in PH of which I am a member, recently got heated exchanges/interactions about modding/DIY builds using Seiko parts to make them look like another watch brand. The moniker "Seikolex"has been a very hot topic in the group. Personally, I don't mind. Your watch, your rules. Then again, I am not a purist. 😜

Seidorex would just about fit 🙂 Seriously though if it has an original NH35 in it and you're not planning to sell it as a factory item I can't see the issue.

Yes you are. But life will go on.
