Dial Patina Yes or No

This was another watch restore project. Originally it looked like this and was most definitely a non-runner.

Took two doner movements to get all the parts needed and then had to tear it down twice to get it going. However seems to be humming along now.

I love the patina on this dial. It is hard earned patina to say the least.

My wife thinks I’m weird as I have zero interest in finding a less beat up dial.

Curious what the masses think patina, love it or get that thing off your wrist lol.

A nice even patina from age and consistent use can be appealing. It can't be recreated easily and it usually shows that the watch had a lot of love. Abuse patina is something different and it usually isnt as appealing to me. Same goes for uneven patina from sudden damage.

I've tried to do fake patina on a couple mods ... did not work so your right on that.

I suspect this Orient might be crossing the line for you as I do not think this poor watch had much love in it's past lol.

If you’re going to replace the dial, why not just skip all this and buy a new watch? I guess I view a certain amount of wear to be part of the charm. I totally get how others just see an old dirty watch, but then maybe vintage isn’t for those folks.

I think a new crystal (or polish) and a touch up on the case will work some magic.

Not a patina fan here…it’s just a word people use to justify keeping something in a decrepit state.

Wow good job

I'm picky about patina on a dial. Oftentimes it just looks damaged or grubby to me. Generally I prefer dials to look as pristine as possible. Yours is alright though.

I enjoy when someone brings a watch back to life! Kudos! Nice results you got there!
