Review: A surprising reversible watch that is satisfying with Vario VERSA

The Vario VERSA is one of my favorite purchases of the year. While it's closely recognized as a homage to JLC Reverso (or some would argue Cartier Tank Basculante), the VERSA has its own design language sticking true to its Streamline Moderne style. As a reversible watch, the mechanism works very well and the clicking sound is satisfying with each flip.

The 12mm thickness is debatable, but once on the wrist, the thickness is barely noticeable. The polishing is excellent and the printing on the dial is crisp in real life.

Another debatable topic is the quartz movement, which for me personally is something I'd prefer with a reversible watch to have a worry-free experience of time setting and servicing that will last for at least 6 years.

For its price point, I'm certain this is the best value that one can find for a reversible watch. As someone who's initially planning to get a Reverso, the VERSA does scratch the itch and provides a fun experience by a microbrand with a great story that I'm happy to support.

Currently, the VERSA which is limited to 300 pieces (100 for each dial color: blue, green, red) has been sold out, but I heard that they are looking to release some new colors in 2023!

Great looking piece. 12mm doesn’t seem too bad. Looks like just the right size In terms of proportions.

Thanks! I agree with the proportions and the more I wear it, the less I'm feeling the debate with the thickness due to its comfort.

Grateful that mine is the second out of the 100 pieces. I hope you'll be able to get it when they release new colors next year 🙏

Doesn’t like 12mm thickness, 5/5 for wearability.

Also find this amazing but I don't think I can pull that of

Wanted to grab one of these but I held off. I think Ivan is bringing them back next year with new color ways.

It certainly wears comfortably and the 12mm thickness is often forgotten. It would have been nice for it to be 10mm but fitting two quartz movements under 10mm is a challenge.

Yes, I'm looking forward to new colorways by Ivan and Judy next year!

So, not 5/5 because it would be better at 10mm?

Ivan and Judy are doing some fantastic things these days, and Vario may be my favorite microbrand at the moment. 👏👏

I sure hope the new batches come in soon. I've been asked too often

I'm a rectangle lover and wish it could be done at 10mm. Even 11mm would be great. I can only cheat via design.

I am assuming you are responsible for this watch - the thickness critique wasn’t mine, it was the reviewers.

It’s apparently a 5/5 but they believe it’s too thick… you can see how that doesn’t make too much sense.

I can appreciate that with a reversible mechanism and two quartz movements, thickness would be a challenge, but I’m not the one criticising the end product.
