Recreated my Dad's First Childhood Watch as a Christmas Gift

I started delving into watchmaking as a hobby a little under a year ago. I'd been messing with a Bulova President a few months ago for myself and decided to show my dad. He remarked that it looked just like his very first watch he got as a kid and told me about his experience going to the store, picking it out, and how big of a deal it was.

So I spent the last few months buying way too many broken Bulova 7AK movements on ebay, breaking most of them worse, and finally getting one running well. I put it together this 1945 movement with the same case and dial and gave it to him for Christmas. It's older than the one he would have purchased in the 50's but he said it looks nearly identical.

It was amazing to see him get taken back over 60 years to his childhood when he opened the box.

That's some great work! Kudos to you, that's a great gift that I'm sure he'll treasure. I'm glad you were able to get all the parts.
