NEW : Yema Urban Field

Yema just released their latest model : the Urban Field.

I was positively surprise to discover this watch as I think it has a interesting/different design.

It is a manual wind with a Swiss (a first for Yema AFAIK) SW210-1b Élaboré and is thus quite slim : only 7.8mm. It is also available in two diameter : 37,5 or 40mm.

The dial as a nice texture to it and I like the odd Arabic numbers markers.

It is available in 5 colors (in order of my personal preferences) : kaki green, sand/yellow, black, white and blue

One thing I noticed is the choice of bracelet : it comes with a quite rare Bonklip bracelet (the only other one I know of in modern production is from an other French brand : Serica)

... Or a "modern take on the classic 1960s Beads of rice bracelet" that I found to be really well done :

Both options come with a 2nd leather strap matching the color of the dial :

Last but not least, the price : at 1099€ it is (too?) expensive, especially compared to a Serica 4512 which is also a French field watch with a Swiss manual wind movement and a Bonklip bracelet... but only cost 690€ !

Yeah, when I first saw this release I immediately made comparisons to the Serica 4512 (at least on the clip bracelet). It’s like a more dressed up version - which is less appealing for me personally. I am sure it will have its fans but think I’d opt for the Serica given the choice purely for the more simplified aesthetics.

A full polish on a field watch seems a bit odd, but it’s well done. The sand dial is different and also executed nicely. More money than I’d want to pay for a manual wind.

Nice looking watch. I think the green and the sand are the two most interesting of the group.

I got the mail notification yesterday and my thoughts were in this order:

  1. It's weird that they don't use their YEMA2000 movement

  2. I could dig it if it was fitted with their newer micro-rotor

  3. Why all polish? I already own a Lorier Safari.

  4. Ah it's Yema. They always have to be different.

I already own 3 watches from Yema. This launch, while interesting, isn't the one that will convince me to buy a fourth Yema.

Very good point on the micro rotor, I didn't think about it but it would have made a lot of sense!

Quite a lot to like in terms of design, colours and movement but the full polish is 1) a pretty perverse approach to a field watch and 2) cheap looking. Going with the Serica over this seems like a no-brainer.
