Watch boxes

I collected several woodworking hand tools from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I use them for woodworking projects. I’ve thinking that it might be fun to build handmade watch boxes and wondered if people might be interested in these. I know there are Chinese made watch boxes on Amazon that are inexpensive, but would people like US made with hand tools? Try different wood types, finishes and designs. Just thinking about doing this since I don’t Golf in my retirement. I collect tools, watches, firearms and enjoy woodworking. What say you guys as watch collectors?

Sounds cool. I feel like there’s probably solid demand for watch boxes made in the US.

I think an increasingly large number of people, myself included, are willing to spend and do spend that premium on hand crafted, artisan crafts.

Hey fellow woodworker. Nice job on the watch box. Making anything (meaning profit) on a woodworking project is a challenge. I'd compare some examples on Etsy and see if you can make something that would compete, and still make a profit. Not an easy task.

I’m really not looking for profit as much as a fun challenge

Those look great! Gotta have a glass top though...

Woodworking, firearms, watches...my kinda guy! 👍

I am attracted to any local products: straps, travel pouches, boxes. I don’t mind spending more as long as I know a local craftsman or artist benefits, my purchase feeds his or her family, and knowledge is preserved.

Very nice 🤜🤛

·

Why not indeed, nice little side line

Can you make ones with glass tops? I have some solar watches so a glass top box would be interesting. Maybe a two layered one, with top layer having a glass top.

My next one will have a glass lid

If one can be done with a glass lid I would be interested in a wooden box. Also great work on this one looks great !

Beautiful work! I also do some woodworking, but the whole world of hand tools is something I don’t think I could do. Very nice 👌

It’s a lot of fun. Try starting with a hand plane and a good crosscut saw and rip saw. Once you’ve got them down, you might find yourself substituting a power tool with a hand tool. Then before you know it, you’ll be making wood chips instead of sawdust. 😎

Love this! Great idea

There are not a lot of watch display towers available but lots of watch boxes. So you might be onto something

I was going to say this. Seems the only options around now are either super pricey ones like Wolf or super cheap sketchy ones from China dropboxers on Amazon

·

If you cover the inside with soft fabric and add leather pillows , I’ll be happy to buy 🙂

I think space for 7 watches and small section for extra straps would be perfect

Wolf isn’t even real leather :( rapport and then other brands charge 1k . It’s madness

Thank you for these ideas. I will add these to my next design. I like the idea of a place to store extra straps.

I think $1K for a watch box is nuts.

I am in need of a watch box. I really don’t want to buy some mass produced box from China even though they can be quite handsome. The idea of a hand mad box would appeal to me. If you move forward with this I would certainly buy one from you. Let me know. Jeremy Baldwin.
