Worth fixing?

It's a very old quartz Yema that I used when I was a kid. I already got it second hand at the time. It was probably made in the 80s. Unfortunately, it's in pretty bad condition: - the crown turned brown (it lost a layer of metal apparently) ; - the hands look dirty ; - the dial has been scratched ; - last but not least, it does not work anymore : it probably suffered from humidity at some point. I tend to think it's not worth having it fixed, but maybe you have a different opinion?

It's not my watch with my sentimental value, so I would not put the money into it.

I will keep it for sure and I am satisfied with that regarding the sentimental value.

Wearing it again... maybe... but I am afraid of the repair cost.

C Depends on the cost

If you're emotionally attached fix it. If not, don't. But find a watchmaker that can give you an estimate before you make that decision.

I found an old box with all my old watches, most of them broken. I decided to pick out a few to see if they could be repaired. Only three were fixed, but I was a very happy uncle! I bought new straps for them and now they have spots in my watch box for the occasional wear and reminiscence. So the answer is a YES! 👍

Pop the back and post a pic with a number. Quartz movements are cheap and easy to replace

·

Yes, if you can find a similar movement at a reasonable cost.

Watchmakers will not repair any damaged quartz movements, they will remove & replace the entire unit.

The movement is a Shiojiri Y112A.

I will try to find it. Maybe it's something I coud do myself indeed.

Maybe get it fixed so it works, but keep the patina and marks, as a reflection of the life it’s had and memories it holds?

I would leave the wear and tear and get it running. Then wear it when needing to feel like a kid again.

·

If it's really important to you, go fix it. If not, you can just put it on as a room decoration

Ho many thanks ! I could not find the caliber on eBay and was not aware of compatible movements…

Now I have a cool project ahead !

I think people fear too much the cost of repair. I think you’ll find it rewarding to get it fixed
