I got some Red Wing Iron Rangers a few years back. Pretty iconic boots. Other than my new #seiko, these are my favorite things to wear.
I have come to enjoy nice things, that if taken care of, will last for a very long time…hence my appreciation for watches now. Sure, there are nice boots and nicer watches out there…but these are respectable in their categories.
Anyone else into boots? Any Red Wing fans?

For me, in no particular order:
Red Wing
Thursday
Jim Green
Chisos
GoRuck
Thorogood
I have some. As I've gotten older I have come to appreciate my Blundstones more for their comfort and convenience though.
I’m hugely into boots, in fact I rarely ever wear shoes other than trainers (sneakers). I have 2 pairs of shoes for dress occasions & around 25 pairs of boots.
I’m very late to the Red Wing party, having only acquired the 5 pairs I have in recent years. I simply couldn’t afford to buy 1 pair previously. All of mine are Moc Toes, but much like my habit of changing out stock issue straps on my watches, I have changed out the soles on the boots.
I really don’t like the white soles on the Moc Toes, they get dirty too easily & wear out quickly. I have resoled them all with harder wearing Vibram soles, black, honey etc. These boots will outlive me, they really are excellent quality & well worth the extra outlay in cash.
I try to split my fun money between affordable watches and boots. Next pair I'm saving up for are the Grant Stone Brass for next winter. 👍
Altberg boots, made in Richmond England. Started off with their motorbike boots as they offer a refurbishing service. Then progressed onto their walking boots.
Dr Martens for me
big boot fan here, I mainly got the Northamptonshire brands, Trickers, Loake, Crockett & Jones, Church's, Grenson..
I had the Iron Rangers and ended selling them (as well as a pair of vintage Dr. Martens) and ended up replacing them with the Indy 405 boot from Alden.
And then I found myself doing a deep dive into chukka/desert boots.
With a pair of Blunnies thrown in for good measure.

I have wanted to try Thursday Boots. From what I see and hear they are a bargain!

I hear great things!

I don’t have any moc ties….been thinking about a pair. At work we recently changed dress policy to allow jeans so maybe I need another pair of boots to I get into the rotation!

I looked those up! They look nice! Kind of remind me of the Alden Indy boots except not made in the US.
Here’s a watch shot with my Iron Rangers in the background 😊

Don't be fooled by the Chinese factory of Grant Stone. The boots they make are twice as good as what you would find for that price made in the US. They are a killer brand highly praised among heritage boots communities.

I haven't been disappointed with the price to value ratio tbh.
Goodyear welted boots/shoes are as full of enthusiasts and talking internet heads as much as other places.
Made in Mexico, like a lot of other US leather direct to customer brands.
I've never understood why reddit gives them so much hate. They aren't $400-800 boots. Just solid made, $200, resoleable boots.
They also are not work boots like Redwing and Thorogood.
Mine have held up fine, up to and including hiking in my olive Explorers. And the main complaint all the talking heads have, is the laces take to long to unlace/relace.
Well I PREFER super long laces to better "ranger" wrap around the tongue several times to assist with heel lock. So if you get some extra extra long Pisgah Range laces, tie a simple overhand knot in the end, then all you have to do is pull till the knot ends stop at the eye hook, loosen everything up don/doff, then pull em tight. Rinse repeat.
Too many get hung up over this "con". Simple fix and I'd always rather have longer laces.
That's just one example too 😂.

Those look like some serious workers! Mine don’t really fit that category…I mostly just walk around my office or out in public lol. We have desk divers in the watch world so I suppose my boots would be considered desk boots!

I had a pair of Docs when I was in high school when they were all the rage (the first time). Loved them and wished I still had them!

Those are all new to me. I’ll need to check them out!

The Indy’s have been on my mind for some time! Love the history! Reminds me of those aptitude test questions…..
My Seiko Field is to my Iron Rangers as a Hamilton Khaki is to Alden Indy! What I have…compared to sometimes what I wished I had haha!

Yeah I’m finding that out! Thanks for the info!

Yeah I’ve seen his videos….thankful nobody does this to watches. Except for maybe the “will it blend” videos. But haven’t specifically seen any watch ones.

Comfortable to walk in after getting off the bike. I have two other pairs of their boots, more standard height than these ones. They are my everyday boots.
