Formex Essence 39

I recently got the chance to play around with the Formex Essence 39 and I came away feeling quite impressed by their quality. Have always hear good things about their watches but didn’t have chance to see them in my country. Recently they partner with a local retailer so we will be able to see/try and obtain their watches more easily.

Personally I feel they punch quite abit above their weight. On the wrist, it feels like a much more expensive watch. I also understand that they do most things in-house including cases, bracelets, bezels and dials.

Had a white dial 39 mm Essence for a year (ish) now.

A good watch. The funny thing is that what Formex is famous for, ie the suspended case, is the least relevant feature of the watch.

How many times will your watch receive a punch on the caseback side, where it sits on your wrist ? If the shock is hard enough to damage the case, it means your wrist will have been shattered to pieces and your watch will not be your main concern...

Putting that aside, it is a well thought out watch. The case is slim, the dial looks great, the form factor is modern and compact and Formex leads the game in terms of bracelets and clasps. When I wear my 2021 Tudor BlackBay 58, I wish it had a Formex bracelet, with quick release and easy extension.

The movement is well regulated (+4 sec /day), the build construction and finish very convincing and I've been lucky to order it from the company for less than € 1400.

Before forking out €5000 more for an Omega Aquaterra, check the Essence first and thank me later.
