The Titanium Effect

One of the reasons I chose this Grand Seiko over other quartz models was the case material, the titanium.

As my watch-wearing experience grew, I developed a taste for watches that fit on my 6-inch wrist. I rarely wear anything above 40mm unless it’s a diver, but I thought I’d give this a shot hoping that the lack of weight from the titanium would compensate.

And it did just as I expected. The weight, or lack thereof, makes me grab this watch on almost every occasion because it’s so light and comfortable.

The only trade-off I had was the scratches on the bracelet, but I didn’t want to baby this watch. I wore it at least four days a week, and you can see the wear on the watch.

Having a small wrist can make you hesitate for specific sizes, but if it’s titanium, it might work out for you.

Very divisive material. I'm not into it in watches myself (I'm old & still associate weight with quality ) But I can absolutely see how some folks could fall in love with it . 👍🏻👍🏻

I like the idea of titanium, but I hate how the scratches look compared to steel.

And it absolutely makes some watches. The Pelagos for instance. It's an integral part of the look

Yet ironically I'd buy the Pelegos in steel in a heartbeat. 🤣

Had a couple of Ti , A Tissot T-touch and a Zelos Swordfish. Still got the Tissot for mountains etc, absolutely hated the Zelos and I'm sure the material was as much a part of that as the gaudy design.

To each their own, variety is the spice of life as they say 🤗👍🏻

I like titanium; particularly when done with a hardened coating like The Citizen does. I haven't noticed that it scratches more often than steel. I have a couple older -- "90's" era Seiko Kinetics -- titanium watches that don't seem worse for wear.

Of course, as a dishwater dull desktop warrior, I might be easier on watches than all you tool watch wearing rough and ready folks ready for adventure.

Im interested in ceramic as well as titianium

I mean there’s cheapo grade 2 Ti like Tudor uses that scratches like crazy versus grade 5 (I think) that GS uses… which is a lot better .

I like it.

Same here, smaller 6.2” wrist. Have loved going Titanium with my FXD and Shunbun. Definitely a great experience so far 👍

Yeah, for that reason, I have my eyes on Citizen watches. Either Attesa Line Watches or The Citizen.

Titanium is my favorite. I especially like Citizens titanium with duratect.

I am all for not babying watche, especially what the cool folks like to call GADA watches. Wear it and wear it IN! GS make some of the best pick up and go watches on the planet. Big fan of yours.

I love the GS quartz. I have owned 3 and sold them. Next one I get I am keeping it. Fascinating movement.
