Brand new scratch on my almost brand new watch

Yeah... I was used to those cheap Chinese watches that mostly come with sapphire crystals, now I have this nasty gash on the mineral crystal of my Seiko SSK023. Frustrating.

Does anyone already sell a compatible sapphire crystal for this watch?

Ah yes, Seiko and their hardlex fetish

Can you not buff it out? Just asking..

In the USA I get mine from Crystaltimes. I went with a double domed with blue AR on the inside that really made the black dial pop.

You can. It’s a bit of a time intensive process tho

If you’re based in the EU I can wholeheartedly recommend monsterwatches.nl

Got my blue sapphire for my SBSA from him and my watchmaker was stunned by the quality. Fit like a glove and the cases of these two watches should be the same.

I buffed mine out with diamond paste and my dremel in ten minutes.

I'll try to do this!

because we're not looking through our bracelets to tell the time. And the steel is more scratch resistant that seiko's hardlex (and easier to buff).

It's a minor additional cost to Seiko to put a sapphire crystal in over hardlex, and it's immensely more scratch resistant.

I bought 4000, 8000 and 50000 grade pastes and used a cclean wheel for each. Keep the wheel moving and evenly polish. Worked well on my Serica.

If they did that, it would take away a lot of the motivation for consumers to buy more expensive watches, where Seiko’s margins are significantly higher. It’s a lot more profitable for them to upsell you on a Prospex or other higher priced model

you're not wrong. It just sucks

Update - I bought the diamond paste and spent an hour yesterday grinding at the watch. It's mostly fixed, you can't see it on most angled, there's a shallow ridge where the scratch was, it was really deep. Happy with the results.

Still wish Seiko would ship sapphire on this.

What size diameter and thickness did you buy?

I don’t know the specifics. The website had them sorted by Seiko model numbers. Enter the watch and it gave you all the options that fit.
