In need of advice

So… I was sold on the pictured Sealander GMT. A week later, the pictured Aquitaine came out and made me question everything. And now I’m just so in love with the Black Back Pro, after seeing all the posts of lucky owners, I’m contemplating saving up for one…

There is nowhere even moderately near me where I can try on the BB Pro, but also unable to try on the CW’s. Do I order one of the CW’s (and if so, which one?!), or do I save up and buy the Tudor on my honeymoon in Switzerland?

all opinions are most appreciated!

My opinion is if you save for the Tudor and buy it at the most memorable time of your life you'll never regret it. If you settle for the lesser options and you'll always regret it. And there's no way CW is not lesser than Tudor. Cheers! and enjoy your watch, whichever one you get.

When it comes to any decision like this, I say take money off the table. If your putting it into your line-up of options, then you should already be able to comfortably afford that watch and resolved that its cost won’t impact you. With that in mind, which of these watches excites you most… pick that one. You don’t want to end up regretting and inevitably spending more money to scratch that “itch”. On that note, if you buy the BB Pro and it just doesn’t resonate with you, you should have no problem reselling and getting either of the other two. Just my 2 cents - gl on the decision ahead, probably no wrong answer or bad choice.

This gentleman is a...  um...  er...  gentleman and a scholar.   @Justintime is exactly right.  Save up!  You will  love the watch forever.

Unless you get divorced...  in which case, every time you look at the watch,  it'll  just remind you of heartbreak, wasted opportunities, the endless alimony payments, that time she made fun of your pants in front of all your co-workers, the way she flirts with other men right in front of your face!

......

Oh, sorry.  Back to your watch.  Yeah, totally, get the Black Bay Pro.

I'll go against "common wisdom", and ask, will a Tudor make you feel better than a CW?

The price difference is significant, so clearly the CW will not be as nice as the Tudor, but only you can answer whether or not the extra thousands of dollars will actually translate into extra enjoyment.

The following prices are in CAD:

CW C63 GMT $1565

CW Aquitaine $2025

Tudor BB Pro $4670

I would say save up and buy the Tudor in Switzerland.  Even if you get divorced, you will never forget the experience of buying the Tudor in its country of origin.  Mechanical watches outlast most marriages now-a-days anyways.

The Tudor is thousands of dollars. If you are asking strangers on a public forum about this then, no offence, but you probably don't have thousands of dollars just laying about looking for somewhere to be spent. There are so many amazing, memorable, romantic things you could do for your fiance with that money on your honeymoon. Buying a watch is not one of them. Skip buying a watch for a year or two, look after your woman.

Lol some of these comments are Brilliant.

I would go with the one that excites you the most, money is always the issue now but in years to come you won’t even remember how much it was in the first place 😂

·

I'd look at dimensions too. I am interested in the Tudor but it's a thick case so not sure how it sits on the wrist so will have to try on.

I think you are looking for Cosmo.com.

LoL! I think if one is having to decide how to allocate money on one's honeymoon, then buying a bauble for one's wrist is not wise. But your mileage may vary!

Maybe you are looking for Women's Wear Daily. This is a watch site. No one here thinks they should replace women with watches but we may fantasize about it. We do ask opinions on watches. Remember: the topic here is watches not marriage or honeymoon advice. This person seems to have no problem buying the Tudor if he decides to. I'm not even sure where you are getting that he is going to neglect his wife because of it.

That's not what I'm saying at all. You only (hopefully) have one honeymoon. You could remember it in years to come by shared experiences (paid for with the money you would have dropped on a watch) or you could have a watch - money is finite for most of us. My advice would be the former, and buy the watch when you get back and have saved some more cash. You disagree, that's fine. I bought a Sea Dweller on my honeymoon, I reckon it was a mistake, I wouldn't do it again.

Try looking at it another way. Your honeymoon should be one of the most romantic times of your life. Is going to a watch shop the most romantic way you can think of to spend your time?

I'll happily take that Sea Dweller off your hands to help you erase that mistake :)

Sold it years ago. About the same time as my wife left me! (not coincidentally)

Aquitane.  By far the most beautiful, and better proportioned than the BB.  The Aquitane is original where the BB is simply an homage.  I wouldn't pay an extra couple thousand for an in-house movement.

Go for the better fitting and better priced Aquitane - except I'd pass on the GMT and go for the bronze (but that's just me).  😉

CW said that the Aquitane was inspired by the Fifty Fathoms, so it is also an homage. I love the Aquitane, but don't like the colorways. If they had only made one in black with gilt, I would have purchased it on the spot.

Yes you're right, of course.  The Aquitane is not completely original (few things ever are).  But to my eye it improves and innovates on the FF, while the BB is not an improvement, more of an ill-proportioned bastard version of the classic Explorer II.

Colorway is a personal choice - I love the blue and bronze Aquitane.

👍

I would agree with @KristianG on this one. I know for me I went into an AD and looked at the Tudors and Omegas you know what the heavens didn’t open and rain skittles or chocolate for me. Nice watches but they weren’t going to fill me with anymore joy than a cool Seiko. Thats me though everyone’s different. However, if your asking the question that may also be you.

·

I say Tudor BB. I have given, and received, watches as gifts. They symbolize the value of time spent with that person. In this case, every time you look at the dial of the watch you will remember that special time.

The money isn’t an issue. I just keep a separate “watch fund” from everything else and as I just bought a new watch last month it’s depleted, hence the need to “save up”. And the only reason it would be bought on the honeymoon is because nowhere near me sells Tudor, and I’ll happen to be in Switzerland then.

·

I don't know where you reside, but it could be extremely expensive to purchase it in Switzerland. I would investigate before purchasing it in Switzerland and take VAT, into consideration. Best to you
