Montblanc?

I’m a fan of their pens, and other accessories, but what does the watch cognoscenti (that’s you) think of the quality and design of their watches?

My sister's boyfriend has one & a Panerai. The Montblanc feels as well made ,if not better. Good watch. 👍🏻

Truly bang for the buck. I really think it’s under appreciated.

Really like the design of the Geosphere, titanium case, interesting world time display, decent water resistance - would make a great watch for travel. Think it may take a while to build the brand image to that of the other big Swiss names but my impression when I saw it was that quality was comparable with similarly priced watches. I believe they are generally Sellita based movements so should be reliable and reasonable to service.

I tried on a GMT model at an airport in Portugal a few months ago when I was travelling through. It definitely felt more entry-level to me quality-wise. The brand is positioned at the lower-end of the Richemont Group hierarchy and it shows. I think they are a bit overpriced based on the quality of the one I tried on. I would personally seek out more value by going for a either a more affordable brand (Seiko, etc) or trying a different luxury brand with better quality and finishing.

There Minerva chronographs are some of switzerlands best watches

·

GREAT pens...I own a few myself. But for watches, I'd go with a WATCH BRAND! Just my 2 cents.

One of my coworkers grabbed an 1858 chronograph of theirs for under $2k usd at a Costco and he loves it. I think it’s quite nice too at that price.

Some of the models seem a bit pricey when you consider what else is available but I trust the quality of them.

I have a Nicolas Rieussec chronograph with dual time and it’s a great watch - it has a Minerva movement and keeps excellent time - they do some very high end chronographs with mono pushers etc as well as more affordable models - I have found the quality very good with my watch.

I’ve three MB watches. All are excellent, punch above the weight in one way or another (ie design, dial craftsmanship, function, etc.).

There are three tiers to Montblanc...

Top Tier - Minerva/Montblanc - the premier watchmaker for chronographs - second to none and on par with Patek...

When Richemont purchased Minerva they gifted it to Montblanc. Since then Montblanc has curated the amazing handcrafted chronographs made in the original atelier in Villeret. The work of these watchmakers and artisans is truly exceptional. I have visited and spent time with the team and they are amazing. As a member of Montblanc's Club 58, we get access to the best of the best that comes from Villeret. Here are a few examples...

Middle Tier - Luxury Montblanc

Since Laurent Lecamp became Managing Director of Montblanc Watches, he has dramatically improved the luxury tier of Montblanc. Amazing watches that are incredibly value priced. Here are some examples...

Lower Tier - Airport Montblanc

These are the watches that have given Montblanc a bit of a knocking in the collector community. Whilst they are well made watches, they use generic movements and are priced to sell in the secondary market with significant discounts from the retail prices. I would place these in the same category as the "mall watches" from TAG Heuer. In reality, they are no less quality than your standard Oris watches and on par with the old Tudor watches that used generic movements.

Here is an example (only have one in the collection)...

I am quite statisfied with the watch, got it for my birthday back in mid-december. The complication is very unique, lume very bright. The watch is also pretty light for its size given it's made from titanium.

Brilliant watch and already caught my eye. :-)

Thanks I didn’t know about their tiers , only ever seen the Sellita mall variety, yes the top end looks amazing.

My brain stopped at "I'm a fan of their pens"

I love mine. I would recommend one for sure. One the dive watch and I think the rest of the 1858 line they have a great system for strap changes.
