I'm a professional poker player and I use my watch for measuring playing sessions, being aware of how much time left I have in a tournament break, and, I use the seconds hand in close spots as a substitute for a random number generator.
And off course sometimes your cards are so good that you'll want to bet in the pot even the valuable watch you have on your wrist 😂 (joking ofc, this only happens in movies with terrible poker scenes).
There's a reason your watchmaker does it like that. It's not a generational thing [sic]. I don't want to butcher the technical explanation so I'll wait until someone can elaborate.
