My wife didn't appreciate my thoughts on the price of dinner....

Our eldest graduated from elementary school today so the special occasion called for a special dinner. We ate at our local upscale seafood restaurant and I pointed out to my wife that the cost of a decent Seiko is equivilant to a nice dinner for the family. I mean in this context she shouldn't be too bothered when a new watch arrives in the mail.

She was not amused and I dont understand why.

So what watch should I order tonight?

Oh the things we do to be allowed to get another watches

·

Haha, oh no! Maybe wait until tomorrow night!

First let me offer my congratulations for the graduation.

If you’re going big, you might as well go home down payment…might I suggest the Vacheron Constantin Overseas.

You should pulled out that line at McDonalds.

·

The one you always wanted, go on

All I know (having been informed) is that expensive clothes, bags, sunglasses and a sparkly new iPhone are necessities; watches are not. 🤷‍♂️

Next time set a Big Mac as your target instead of a seafood dinner and do try to have the delivery done at a mail drop box. It's much safer this way, trust me on this.

Don't get me started on shoes, why they are important and why this pair is completely different from the other pair, which to my eyes look exactly like the rest. I live with the reincarnation of Imelda Marcos.

This is my go-to when the parents/friends complain or think me insane for another watch acquisition. The total value of my collection is a fraction of many people's handbag budget. I'd rather cook my own food for cheap and wear a nice watch (like almost every YouTube or television cook) doing it.

(On a side note, am I the only one who notices that professional or "influencer" cooks always wear nice watches, typically Rolex Datejusts and Day-Dates?)

I haven't said it out loud, but I do think this sometimes. But my rationale tends to be like reverse, if I see a watch I like I think, if I pack my lunch for two weeks it'll even out. Luckily I like inexpensive watches!

Have you seen what inflation has done to the prices at McDonalds? I can get a Casio quartz diver for the same amount of money it takes to feed my family of four.

My friend I get it. I’ve raised 5 children. The youngest is a senior. I’ve been there. Enjoy it. It goes fast.

Or maybe you should get the new Seiko Edible, the watch for fathers who are guilty about their watch purchases taking food from their children's mouths. With its black licorice dial, gummy strap and pure sugar crystal, if things get tough you can just feed your watch to them.
