Watches I Love and Why #3 - Nomos Club Neomatik 37

I think at this point it's clear that I have a soft spot for German watchmaking.

This love comes from their ability to take simple shapes, essential forms, to create something so unique and so recognisable.

This is absolutely the case with Nomos.

The brand is a true star in a dark sky in my opinion, enough with all these copycat of Rolex divers, enough with grey, black, dull blue, the noisy not well thought out chronographs, the boring designs with no inspiration whatsoever.

Nomos proposes such unique dials with very inspired pop of colors here and there, just enough to not be in your face and complement the watch beautifuly

Every line, every hue, every shape is dosed perfectly in this Neomatik model which is one of my favourites, the blue and the orange, as complementary colors do, create a beautiful contrast and are married together on the white and clean dial.

All is thought out to exalt the tones on the small seconds hand and the numerals, even the strap, that comes in a very bright grey, is not bothering the real star of the show: color.

To me is a very playful everyday choice, it even has a 100 mt of water resistance, and would fit a wide variety of wrists whit a diameter of 37mm and a bunch of neutral styles.

Are you a white shirt guy? Do you wear neutral colors like Greys and whites?

This timepiece got you covered and can take your outfits to the next level, you don't have to spend 10000 euros for such a well made watch, Nomos, in terms of bang for the buck, it's just the best, only 2600 euros for this puppy.

As already said the beauty of this timepiece is found in semplicity, it's not a surprise that is not very well known, it takes a while to understand how Nomos is what it is, but if you take some time you can realise how it does not take a lot to make a stunning watch, you just have to know how to dose it and play with it.

I'm in love with Nomos too, even though I am more of a Orion guy. I would love to own one of their DUW3001!

·

I really like this watch, but will probably never own one. Something about simple watches makes them hard for me to buy.

Yes, the Orion is on my wishlist :) I like the basic 301 or 309

I like that, that's cool and understated. I have one German watch - Junghans - again, I love it for its simplicity and being really, really easy to read.

·

That’s a great looking watch but I don’t like the price point.

·

I have a Tangente which I love. I like the Club, but many of the colours that appeal to me have California dials which I'm not at all keen on. Also a Stowa and soon to be Hanhart owner!

Yeah I can make the same argument for a Rolex or an Omega, I think 2600 is more then fair considering you get a watch of the same caliber for three times the money from these other brands. Only thing you pay is the status and the inflation.

I love Nomos as well. I have a NWC Club special edition as one of my daily drivers + a Minimatik Nachtblau on the way for one of my wear at work rotation watches. Sadly the Zurich World Timer is way too big for me, but I love the look of that thing. I loved them even more when I heard that the company was involved in community initiatives to help inject life into the outlying community and Saxony in general . . . and this included pushing back against any Neo-Nazi idealism and general xenophobia and racism, which is sadly still a big issue in former East Germany. They were even quick to fire employees who were found with Nazi material, making a quick statement on who Nomos is as a company.

Yes, it may be a fair price...I just never spent more than a few hundred on a watch...I do like the design though...

Here's an article from a while back that details some of their philosophy and anti extremist stance. Note in the article that other Glaushutte companies aren't able to take such a hard line stance esp. if they are part of corporate conglomerates (or b/c simply they are afraid of local/regional backlash). But, I mean, when potential customers are emailing and asking if your watches are being made by Nazis you kind of want to say NO.

And from Nomos themselves:

https://nomos-glashuette.com/en/press-446

"As an independent manufacturer, it is not our job to set a political agenda. But our values do not permit us to step aside and watch the process of radicalization that has gained a foothold in our region and our home. We condemn all forms of hate and violence—in no uncertain terms. We believe in our democracy and we are ready to defend its principles both in word and deed."

Thank you so much for the article and your insight :) it makes me love Nomos even more!

I love their dials. But they're looking lugs make it impossible for me to wear their watches. The 38mm is too wide for my 6 1/2 inch wrist. And they're 36mm dial looks to small. I really wish they would produce a model with shorter lugs!

Have you considered the Nomos metro with date and power reserve? Is a 37 mm and the lugs look small!

Or maybe some minimatik model

That light blue really make the dial pops, love it!

Have you tried them on in person? I have a 6.5 inch wrist and I thought the same until I actually tried them on. It's one of those brands that are really hard to get a sense for size wise just off photos. The 36mm wears more like a 38 or 39mm. And some models like the Metro (echoing the above) will taper directly against your wrist b/c of the non-traditional lugs of that line.

Yes, I tried on the 36mm. Usually that is a great case size for me, but not this time. The lugs make it feel more like a 39mm. And then the watch itself looked so small. Like I had washed it and ran it through a dry cycle. I really dislike the proportion of the lugs to the dial size.
