Loose Watches

Whenever I'm out at a venue where nicely dressed people wear serious accessory watches, I can't help but wish I'd brought my bracelet resizing tools with me.

Do you think wearing a bracelet so obviously oversized is a conscious choice (style) or just people who don't realize they can resize the bracelet easily?

For me as a person with a prominent bone in my wrist, if my bracelet is big in any way it becomes very uncomfortable quickly. Also the constant sliding up and down plus having to readjust whenever I want to check the time is annoying.

Both can be true 🤣🤣

Seriously

·

Touch my "oversized" bracelet and we're gonna have a problem.

I can't have it snug. IDK why, but it has to be loose enough to ALMOST rotate around my wrist.

·

And yes, it's likely a style choice, like baggy sagging jeans or skinny jeans are.

·

I tend to wear my watches on the tighter side so they don’t slide much.

I figured there might be many who prefer them that way but was curious why. This makes sense.

I wear mine just shy of circulation cutoff 😂😂

If you can’t take the watch off and read the caseback info from the imprint on your wrist it is WAY too loose 😂😂😂 I too wear my watch very snug. It’s a habit from my military days 🇺🇸 but you gotta be comfy so I don’t get bothered. Only thought I always have is if I get in a fight I don’t want my opponent to be able to get hold of the bracelet for arm control. On the other hand most people probably don’t expect that they’re gonna get in a fight. Again, old habit from my military days.

No slip on shoes either, they will come off.

It is odd to me that people like it that way but they probably say that about how I wear mine. like mine snug enough that it doesn't move. I don't want to have to rotate the dial back to where it's visible when I need to see the time or gawk at it in awe. It needs to be in the right spot at all times.

That's how I feel too. Maybe it's a personality thing. It's the rotating that bugs me the most.

With no idea what to bring to a WatchCrunch meet-up a year or so back, I did actually have some polywatch, spring bar removal tools (two varieties) and pin-removal gear in my bag, in case anyone had been shopping that day and needed a quick adjustment. It was a daft idea, all things considered, but hey — I was new.

I wear my watches snug. Others wear them like bracelets (loose and moves around). Matter of preference nowadays. 🤷‍♂️

I have very sensitive skin and therefore have to have a small amount of give so it doesn't aggravate my eczema 😕 That photo does seem extreme though

Sign of a player then! 😉

Man, it’s like the UFC over at your house! Better get a Timex … 😜

I like my watch to hug my wrist, but I have seen some people have them waaaay too tight, to the point where you can literally see their hand turning blue 🤣. Each to their own I suppose. If you like it tight/loose/snug then that's your preference. It's like telling someone that owns a Ferrari that their driving is s**t and they should drive like you ... at the end of the day, it's their Ferrari, let them drive it how they want.

First things first: I hate bracelets, but to each their own.

When I bought my full-metal G, my only watch on a bracelet, I asked the watch dealer to adjust it to my wrist. He did so, but he was irritated that I asked. Shouldn't it be routine to make bracelets fit at the point of purchase in a local store? He was even more irritated that I wanted it micro-adjusted, as if no customers ever asked for micro-fitting before. Now, the bracelet is neither too floppy nor too snug. This is especially important for the full-metal G-Shock, which is too heavy for hammering and twisting around my wrist. I'd be mad if it did.

I can see different reasons to wear a bracelet loose:

  • The watch was bought on the internet or the watch dealer forgot to mention that it could be adjusted, and people may not know to ask for it.

  • Style: I often read that a watch is like an excuse for men to wear jewelry. So, if a bracelet is just a nice-looking accessory, it's perfectly fine to wear it loose.

  • Comfort: Some people may like the look of bracelets but not the feel of them. Wearing a bracelet loose can provide a more comfortable experience.

  • It's another person's watch. Fathers know that watches often inherit the tendency to leave the house on children's wrists. We'd have serious talks if they adjusted my watches to their wrists 🧐!

  • I worked with musicians who wore their watches on the upper arm. Quite irritating for me but obviously perfect for them. If they slipped down their watches during a break, they were loose as hell.

Todd I am in agreement, this is why I love the Tudor T fit clasp on the trusty Ranger , I am still going to try it though on an Erika’s Strap , again which I can wear not too bloody tight :)

·

I don’t judge … wear how you like it… I don’t wear undies do people judge me… prbly…

😜

·

I can’t stand the feel of a loose watch, I prefer them quite snug. It can be a pain on most of my watches but I’m grateful for my Pelagos to have the t-fit clasp to help get it perfect

·

I don’t like anything loose or baggy on my body. I also play drums and coach baseball, which are hard to do with a loose watch. I remember wearing a loose fossil watch as a teenager and popping a spring bar from bending my wrist backwards.

Just reading this gave me anxiety

·

I wear my watches loose. I can't stand a tight bracelet, leather strap or whatever. And I don't care looking unbelievable cool while doing so. 😄🤷🏼‍♂️

·

My wrists are so small that I always run into the problem of not enough strap holes unless I buy specific straps made for small wrists. I agree the that straps are superior to bracelets.

·

I wear my watch bracelets with a loose fit because I find tight-fitting bracelets uncomfortable.

·

Different strokes for different folks. Myself personally, snug on a bracelet (tight index finger fit between skin and bracelet) and a bit more tight on a high quality nato.
