SOTC 2023 - 20 years in the making

Hi!

Here’s my collection that has been growing and shrinking for the last 20 odd years.

My watch collection and passion started with Bulova Accutron, tuning fork watches. I’ve had tons of them, accurate, cheap and fun designs but tricky to find places to service. Favorite piece is the Accutron Spaceview.

The first “expensive / high end” piece I got was the vintage Longines Ultra Chron dress watch. High beat, 36,000 bph and super clean design.

My first Chronograph I got was the vintage Citizen 8110a. High beat (28,800 bph), day/date and flyback chronograph. I love the blue sunburst dial and orange hands. It’s a good companion for my Speedmaster MK2 with its orange hands.

During the last years I have been more and more gravitating towards Omega. Specially pieces from 90’s to 2000’s. I have a fondness for the Speedmaster and especially Schumacher versions.

I’m now looking into different microbrands. I’m trying to find something with a meteor or aventurine dial in 40mm or less sized case. Fo you crunchers have any suggestions?

Lovely collection. You've been collecting for 20 years and only have 15 pieces, that's remarkable. I just started a year ago, and have 11 in my main collection and a few others i have for sale. And of the 11 in my main collection, maybe half are definitive keepers. It's so hard to be discipled and I'm learning how to fight impulsive buys. You have 15 well thought out pieces, I like that. I know I'm a rookie compared to you, but my favorite microbrand is Zelos. They make Aventurine and Meteorite dials all the time, the thing is they tend to sell out instantly. If you are lucky to get one, that would be my recommendation.

I have a question, do you have a collecting philosophy or it's simply, collect what you like?

Thanks for sharing.

I try to buy pieces that I can see myself use as a daily driver. If it’s only used from time to time I don’t really get the connection with it and usually it goes out for sale.

Unless like it’s the Longines ultra chron or other vintage pieces then I’m a bit more sparingly in the usage.

In the end, it just needs to be something you really like and that evokes some kind of feeling.

Any suggestions where to start? :)

@Fiatjeepdriver , @Mr.Santana or the maker of my new Favorite watch The "Arctic Ichi GMT". @Ichibunz Which I just did a quick review on. Here's a WC special you could jump in on.

You have an impressive collection which has obviously been honed to perfection over the years.
