New Kurono Calendrier Type 1: Don't blink or they're gone

Anybody planning to grab one of the new Kurono Calendriers? Two 20-minute windows open on May 26. Reasonably priced at $1800, given the craftsmanship on display. This is the last Calendrier he's going to make. Last year's version was a deep green which was really nice. They're now selling for 200% original price on the pre-owned market.

I love his designs, especially these models. The triple calendar, the unusual colors, the coin-edge bezel, the weird-ass font. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to buy right now, or I'd have to get one. I'm actually kind of glad this "red bean" color (in honor of old Japanese cars like the 240Z) doesn't grab me, or this would be a really painful one to miss.

Thoughts?

I would try to get one if I’m lucky… which I’m usually not 😖

Thank you for the heads up!!

I love red, but not this shade.

I'd rather have the green, but like you not in a position to buy.

I like Hajime Asaoka and his designs are quite retro and funky. A bit old old school, not like 2023 "cool" retro. I have his mk 2 chrono in salmon. The only minor, but kinda dela breaker in my book is the confusing hour and minute hands. Usually the hour hand is the fat and short hand, the minute is longer. Everytime I look at the time, I have to do a double take.

No one has ever mentioned this before and it's killing me. Am I in the twilight zone alone here?!?!

Should be much easier this time since this isn't limited by number just the two windows.

No, I think that's a valid quibble. I'm pretty sure the time in the pic above is 10:08. The minute hand is longer and extends to the minute track. But it's not as immediately clear as it should be (as it is in 99% of watches). Everything Asaoka-san does is intentional, so clearly this is, too. But I wonder why? I have to assume if you bought one, you would get used to it, as we do with any quirks on the watches we own. But you're right, upon first glance it's a bit confusing.

I haven't tried to get in to any of his windows, so I can't speak to loading delays or checkout problems. But I have to assume you're right. If you try the first window and get denied, you get one more shot to get in. Must be nerve-wracking.

I managed to get the midnight 34mm in March. I just set my alarm for a few minutes before the window open, refreshed repeatedly as the time drew seconds near, and clicked buy. That said, the watch was gone in like 2 to 3 minutes!

I have one and so far I haven't gotten used to it because I haven't worn this specific one for a good chunk of time. I'm gonna email them and ask them!

You have the green one? How do you like it? Post when you hear back -- I'd love to hear what they say. Cheers.

That's right, you mentioned that. I love the look of that dial.

I just saw this watch yesterday on a gentleman at the Ben Bridge Timeworks store in Seattle. Beautiful watch!

Cool! I'd love to see one in person. Did you get a chance to look at it or just admire from a distance?

I got a good look. We had a quick chat about the Kurono and then he set it down in front of me while he tried on a G-shock. I loved the red bean color on this dial.
