Rolex and Omega

I like both Rolex and Omega.

I’ve seen quite a few SOTC post here with watches from both brands in the collection and wondered if people see it as “Rolex vs Omega” choice as often discussed on YouTube.

I’ve always wondered why there needs to be competition. Is it a brand name loyalty thing? I can understand if each brand needs to improve and evolve, but both brands appeal to me without favoring one over the other. There are some styles I like, and others I don’t. But it’s good to have both brands with multiple options. They both offer emotional value that exceeds specs and rationale.

Omega is the brand that is most represented in my watchbox. I don't own a Rolex. I don't dislike Rolex, Rolex always seem out of reach for me. I also could not see anything about Rolex that would make me pay the prices that they're asking. With the current practice of the "waiting list", I don't see any future acquisition of a Rolex.

Both are great watch companies with great products. I think Omega is more innovative, but Rolex has a better marketing history. I own an Omega because of sentimental family history. I do not have a Rolex yet, but it is in future plans.

Honestly we're lucky that we have two excellent brands that sort of dominate their price range without being essentially clones of each other. They feel like they have their own DNA, so a lot of people will find a solid option between the two brands, assuming the person is shopping in that price range.

Don’t really think it’s a vs thing since both brands do different things well. Sure there is some overlap, but the design language and overall vibe is very different.

Both brands have watches that I like, but there are other brands I woul prefer. Out of the two, I would go for Omega because there are less douchebags running around with one on their wrist 😉😂

I dislike Rolex both because their aesthetic doesn't speak to me (mercedes hands, serif fonts, squished numerals, cyclops, fluted bezel 🤢) and because I don't connect with the brand values (fabricated achievements, marketing, faked scarcity, pricing strategy, flex culture association). Their "heritage" frankly stinks with many shady stories regarding patents and claims of "first" that have been debunked multiple times. For shame.

I dislike Omega because they have become complacent, don't listen to the community, take decades to upgrade their models, and are stuck in this stupid 90s celebrity endorsement marketing that nobody cares about. But at least their design language does appeal to me and nothing triggers my OCD. Great typefaces and that tickles my brain in the right places.

Regardless, I tend to just scroll past either brand because they are so common and we are so exposed to them on every platform that I have grown apathetic to them.

Love Omega as a brand, but don't like all their watches.

Don't like Rolex brand image , mainly because I'm not a fan of their most iconic watches (sub & Daytona). Do like the OP and Explorer 1 tho.

Omega was my first introduction to watches after $10 drugstore Timex items but a 2tone Datejust, a few Subs and a white dial El Primero Daytona were my daily wearers until I ditched Rolex for Breitling in the late 80s. I own quite a few watches, perhaps too many bought many modern Tudors, did not return to Rolex possibly because they are not what so many apologists of the brand feel the watches to be which is almost high horology. It is not Patek, AP, VC not even JLC. It is good, might be superior to many brands that I spend dollars on including Omega, Breitling and Zenith but not better than Grand Seiko.

I voted C. However, it’s more nuanced than a simple answer. Yes, I usually prefer Omegas products and feel that by a specs and price comparison they offer significantly more for my dollar.

The thing that really pushes Omega well ahead of Rolex in my watch collecting experience has been the ability to do the most simple thing - to be able to walk into an AD and buy the product. I’m just not interested in playing the games that buying a Rolex is (or at least was when I tried). I feel like I am a valued customer at my Omega AD. I just didn’t feel the same experience when I inquired about a watch at Rolex ADs.

Yeah, I get that. I’m probably lucky I live in Japan, where there is no waiting list or “playing the game”, it’s more like lottery. You simply visit them until they have the watch in stock….

My AD has the Rolex and Omega displays right next to each other. Even with an empty Rolex display, I still can’t generate any interest in Omega. I’m far more likely to skip Omega and move to the Cartier or Longines displays.

The only Omega we have left in our house is my wife’s Constellation.

Started with Omega shifted later to Rolex, I love both of them and would always consider buying an Omega.
