Panoptikon "Nightwatchman" GMT PVD Seikomod

Hiya,

Continuing with my work with Seikomods, here's another one. I call it the "Nightwatchman" since it's a pretty stealthy watch, the green highlights of which are reminiscent of nightvision equipment. "Nightwatch" is a pretty fun pun as well.

I remember handling a similar Rolex replica many years ago and it stuck to my mind, so I decided to brush up on those memories by building this watch. So it's basically a homage to a replica, which I find to be a pretty funny thing.

It's a quite nice watch. Wears very well on the wrist due to its Submariner/GMT-Master style case. Looks pretty striking and people will notice it on you. Obviously I did too way back when I had the opportunity to handle the rep 🌞

I'll probably improve this design by tuning it up with a dual colored black-green bezel and a black date wheel. Especially the date wheel modification will make the watch a bit more expensive, but eh, progress has its price. Might do a black datewheel with lumed numerals, even.

From a building standpoint, I found aligning the GMT hand on the NH34 movement to be pure hell. Once you operate the GMT adjustment from the crown to check alignment it seems way out of place. Then it's fine once you adjust the time normally at the most outmost crown position. I'm starting to believe Katy Perry made her song "Hot 'n Cold" about building watches with NH34 in them.

Anyways, if you want one, you're welcome to get it. See my Etsy store for the deets https://www.etsy.com/fi-en/listing/1563567269/panoptikon-nighwatchman-seikomod-pvd-gmt

There's also a Watchcrunch discount code floating around. Check my post history to find it.

That's it for now. Tell me what you think 🍻

Thank you!

Forgot to talk about the watch hands, since we're here might as well mentioned: I see Mercedes hands to be a Rolex thing, and I thought that using Mercedes hands in a Submariner case would lean a bit too much into the replica territory. Luckily I found a rather suitable hand set, the triangle trifecta of hour hand - GMT hand - index at 12 balances out pretty nicely.

Forgot to include a lume shot in the opening post as well, so here it is. Pretty nice lume overall, it's a bit stronger on the dial compared to the hands.

Where do you guys find these dials? I've found some on ebay but a lot of these more elaborate mods I've never seen any dials similar to them (not for modding, at least).

I'd love to tell you, but if I did I'd lose potential customers; I'm working on booting up a small scale business. So it's a bit of a sticky situation for myself. Doing the work to find good suppliers is also part of the value proposition in my pieces I think, and also part of the charm of the craft.

But that might not last forever. I'm looking to produce dials with my own branding soon-ish, after which I'll be able to share more about this 👀
