Going Down the Rabbit Hole: American Classic RailRoad Pocket Watch | Limited Edition

Watch collecting takes you down some interesting side trails from time to time.  Especially, when impulse control isn't your strong suit.  It also isn't very often I buy a pocket watch that hasn't been sitting in the back of a closet for 40 years.  It is pure serendipity that I ended up with this pocket watch.

It started about two weeks ago when I began looking for a pilot watch.  I was deciding between a Laco Aachen and a Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date Auto (aka The Cooper).  I eventually decided on the Hamilton, but like any watch purchase, I obsessively go back to the manufacturer's website at least a couple of hundred of times 🤓.

Now as a day job I work as a web developer so I'm in a lot of different browsers.  Just so happens that on one of these browsers I end up at the generic international site homepage instead of the US site of the Cooper. Sitting gloriously on the front page was a pocket watch I instantly fell in love with.

On top of everything else it was a limited edition and it was now available for pre-order. A few hours later, after watching the YouTube promo video a couple of hundreds of times, and reading everything I could, I decided to buy the watch.  Very glad I did.  The enamel is amazing, it is nice and shiny, and I love the case back.  Hopefully the new kid can get along well with all the old timers in the pocket watch display case 🥳

That watch is gorgeous! I often look for a quality pocket watch that isn't a Patek selling for 100K This looks like an incredible EDC pocket watch

Yeah that is why I jumped on this one.  Tissot does a few pocket watches, but then everything else is at the very high end.

That’s amazing! My uncle has a gold filled one. 👍🏻

I was wondering when I'd see this watch after seeing their ads in my Instagram. Congratulations, and don't forget your Peaky Blinders cosplay when wearing the thing! 😛😁

I feel like there is a name for when the seconds get individual numerical indices. That and the red five second increments are the standouts here for me.

Ball makes, or at least recently made, a pocket watch, but it was a bit weird

Yeah the Ball watch just feels off.  like a bunch of design ideas smashed together.

I considered it.. after all next to Rolex Hamilton is my favorite brand and I have owned several vintage and antique pocket watches. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a watch that goes for about 1,400 bucks in stainless steel I would have much preferred to have a gold filled and paid a little extra.
