Timex Marlin Jet

Has anybody out there had there hands on this yet? If so how do you like it? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger but I'm on the fence. I'm not a fan of crystals that aren't sapphire but this may be the sexiest Timex I've seen so far. The dial looks fantastic and the custom domed crystal looks really cool to me.

I agree, it's lovely isn't it.

My experience with Timex crystals old and new is that there's no need to worry at all. Just a quick buff up with a paint cutting compound like T-CUT gets the crystal scratch free in no time. I think it's win, win. Beautiful domed crystals, simple scratch solution.

Incidentally, I don't know for sure that this watch has an acrylic type crystal so I could be talking absolute tosh 🙂

Good luck with your decision.

looks awesome for me. i installed a screen protector for my watch that isnt sapphire just for scratch prevention, lol.

·

I’ve been eyeing it too so I’d say go for it

I agree it looks amazing and I've been thinking about one too, but non-sapphire is a dealbreaker for me, same reason I love the look of but won't buy a Lorier, I need a watch that can survive outside of a business-casual world.

I own a few Lorier watches and am definitely not gentle with them. I have also owned many Timex watches with acrylic or mineral glass. In 6 or 7 years of collecting the only crystal that has failed me was a sapphire on an Orient Kamasu. I prefer acrylic because it doesn't shatter and if need be 10 minutes with Polywatch fixes any minor scratches I have.

Too small for my tastes but it does look incredible. Wish that wheel was a date weel though imo 24 hour wheels are pointless, looks good either way

I wore a Timex MK1 for about 10 years and absolutely loved it, one of the best watches I've ever owned. But I work outside in nature and nature is unkind to acrylic in my experience: branches, rocks, soil, sand, etc, not to mention machinery, fencing, asphalt, tools. I've also owned Lorier, and just like the Timex the crystal either looked like I took sandpaper to it or I was PolyWatching weekly. I've worn sapphire for years and never had an issue, never a chip, never a crack, and of course perfectly scratch free. Everyone's experience is different and what works for me isn't for everyone, but I have had no luck with acrylic and nothing but success with sapphire. And believe me, I wish Lorier made say a 39mm Astra with that killer Cosmic Blue dial with sapphire, I'd wear it literally every day!

I'm so mad I didn't buy it when it first came out. I'm on the waiting list, but that can take a while. It was a winner for them and sold out in a day. I love it, but because I was saving for my grail, I didn't pull the trigger on this one and now I'm sorry. Oddly enough this watch has a lot of similarities to my grail, if you like this, you will love the Galli S2 also Timex, however, at $975, it's not the price range I typically spend on my Timex watch addiction.

P.S. I own over 100 Timex Acrylic watches and poly watch keeps them looking good, but I also like my watches to look a little scuffed up, so if you are someone who is going to want it to look like the day you bought it, that may be an issue.

I've not seen it in the flesh yet, but it is really nice. Some original touches there which really make it stand apart. I'd have one, for sure.

·

Handled one a couple of weeks back.. nice watch. Strap felt really, really cheap.. almost pulled the trigger on this, but decided not to. I do not own any timex in my collection thought this was going to be the one.

·

Definitely, one of Timex best in a while and I currently own 9 others between my luxury watches. I'm not sure where you can find one at retail since it was an online exclusive and I've seen it's been sold out for a while... If you find TWO available so we both get one, let me know!

My only gripe with it is the 24hr wheel. I just don't understand a purpose for it.

I found them online at another website and they were $341. I'm gonna wait for restock assuming they are restocking. They say they are but there's no date as if yet.

The crystal is Hesalite which I have no experience with.

The crystal is Hesalite. I have zero experience with it. But not too worried as I plan on it being a dress watch for church.

I believe hesalite is a form of acrylic so I would say 99% sure you could just polish any scratches out easily.

Yeah it's acrylic. I had to google.

·

I agree with you. It is a sexy Timex and I don't think I've ever thought that about a Timex. I've heard a lot of people make fun of the crystal which then becomes the bezel but I really think it looks great! Yeah. It would be better to have a Sapphire but at least I can poly watch the acrylic and this watch has both a vintage and modern look.

·

It's a great looking watch! And don't be fussed about the acrylic crystal. If it gets scuffed, a quick buff with some PolyWatch makes it good as new.

I'm not picking this one up myself because 1) 38mm is too big for a dress watch for me 2) I'm not a white dial person, and 3) I just can't with that 19mm lug width.

·

If you work at a desk job then the crystal will be fine. Bring it to your local watch repair shop and have them upgrade it to a sapphire. It is worth the upgrade.

The winding rotor is quite loud, it's very light and yes it's hesalite glass. But it's so enjoyable to see on wrist that I don't mind.
