2022 Review With Watches and Mini-Collection Review

As 2022 is coming to a close, I just wanted to share some of the biggest personal events of mine that I managed to snap a watch shot for. I guess also a good opportunity for me to re-review my watches while I'm here. In watch requisition order:

Cle de Cartier is a watch that I was able to acquire what is a different life ago now. While an unlikely travel companion, I was able to go back to my old home with it this year after COVID restrictions finally lifted.

While dressy in nature, Cle de Cartier also has enough sporty edges to make it work with a more casual wardrobe. The precision is also well within COSC certifications, and was just a pleasure to wear for the month I was travelling. I still think the crown of the watch is one of the coolest crowns ever.

It's hard to pinpoint one moment in time with the Hamilton Spirit of Liberty Chronograph because it was out for service for the beginning of the year, and I just... didn't wear it that often this year. I did try to make an effort to wear it during road trips this year so those are some memories I have with this watch.

The Hamilton's biggest problem for me I think was the wearing experience: it's 42mm diameter, 52mm lug to lug, 15mm thickness, and the bracelets are male end links. It is an absolute beauty especially how it reflects light, but just... uncomfortable. However, I have recently put it on a leather strap, and after wearing the chonk that is the Citizen Skyhawk, it doesn't look so big any more. So I'm going through a second wind with this watch right now.

While Orient Mako II is not a "proper" dive watch, it definitely was the first watch I did swim in. In fact, it was probably the most worn watch at the beginning of this year.

Some what opposite to the Hamilton, I am falling out of love with this watch at the moment. I guess a strap change is in order for this watch as well, I want the watch to be a bit more dressy but the bracelet kind of looks like a slab of metal. Maybe on a proper rubber strap?

Working as a peds resident has been a very humbling experience, and a very rewarding one too. The Citizen Skyhawk is a watch I got in celebration of matching this year, and thus has been on my wrist more often than not for work.

It's huge, it's busy, but it wears well and is frankly very easy to tell the time. Some of the functions are also very useful for me during work as well, so I guess you could say this is my proper tool watch. But behind all the chonk, it is quite a looker. The contrast of brushed vs. polished surfaces is amazing to look at during down times.

Last is my Casio. I got it on a whim, and I don't have too many memories with it yet.

Not much has changed in terms of my experience with the watch yet. Just a fun watch for me to experience a gold square watch. Maybe some day I'll get a 18k gold square watch 👀.

So that's some of the memories of 2022 with watches I had. What are some of your favourite memories of the year? Anything planned for next year?

Nice summary and beautiful choices. Your Cle is still my favorite. I’m still on honeymoon with my Pelagos LHD and bc of that I doubt I’ll be adding another large purchase for a bit.

Though, when I’m ready it might have to be the SBGA415. I was smitten in person…

Thank you! I'm now on the fence on which watch to get after residency, the Tudor Pelagos or another Cartier.

The SBGA415 is 😘 in pictures already, can't imagine how nice it'd look in real life. This hobby has too many enablers.

Ha, exactly. I should‘ve gotten into Lego’s or rare books.

The santos is absolutely a beautiful watch. However, perhaps not the best watch to practice medicine in. On the other hand, it would never get in the way and watches are meant to be worn. If it were me I would go with the santos and not look back. Grab the Tudor next. Just my 2 cents

If I go Cartier there's also the question of which... I do like the Pasha and the Ballon Bleu as well 😂 Choices, choices.
