Fossil appreciation

just changed the strap on my fossil townsman, so here is a quick fossil apreciation post. I am aware there are many better watch companies but i think fossil still has a place in the watch community.

Strap sets it off 👍 Don't own a Fossil m'self, but that's a decent lookin' timepiece! 😀

I believe you are correct. I know many collectors turn up their noses on Fossil but they were a gateway watch for me. I know them to be good quality (at their price point) and have some really good looking designs.

My first real watches in the 90s were a Relic and a Fossil. Owning them, however, taught me to understand what they are -- overpriced cheap quartz watches. They were fine when I was a kid, but I'd never touch one now. It's kind of a shame too -- they own some nice brands, like Zodiac. But I never hear anything positive about the movements that they produce through STP.

I haven't kept up with what they are doing now, but last century (when I was younger) they properly filled the fashion watch niche. They were actually fashionable, not just officially licensed branding, and they sat at a fair price/quality position.

I think that the guy that started Fossil went on to start Shinola. I have much, much kinder words to say about the former company than the latter.

Sold by a Swiss company but mostly made in China.

People from way back when would know not to name a company shinola. They don't know sh!t from it.
