Hi folks,
my name is Nikolas and I am a watch addict. ๐โโ๏ธ
I kinda posted a SOTC before, but quite a lot has already changed since.
Right now my main collection consists of 5 watches + 3 beater watches and I just could be happy with that, right?
Unfortunately not as I cannot repress the thought of downsizing the amount to a maximum of 3-4 main watches + 1 beater. Usually I am wearing one watch for a whole week before I rotate to the next one and therefore are not wearing the remaining watches for almost 1 1/2 month. My idea would be to have a smaller collection and enjoy each model more as it gets more wrist time.
Omega Speedmaster Professional Hesalite
This oneโs flawless
Not going anywhere
Cartier Tank Must Large

Tudor Black Bay 36
One of my most worn watches as it is a perfect daily
The proportions and style of watch suit me best
Unfortunately has an awful clasp, which is almost more wide than my wrist, tried everything for better fitment
Grand Seiko SBGX259
Love the proportions
Bit of a love/hate relationship, sometimes I feel itโs one of the most beautiful watch ever, the other day I find it quite dull and boring
Oris Divers 65
Love the design and the quirkiness
Sometimes feels a wee bit large on me
Not the greatest accuracy in the world
My aim is to cut down to either owning
A) Speedy, Tank, SBGX259, Tudor BB54
B) Speedy, Tank, Tudor BB54
C) Speedy, Tank, Rolex Explorer 36
(+G-Shock Square in any case)
What are your thoughts? Has anyone slimmed down his collection successfully before, did you have regrets or are you indeed more happy that way? My biggest fear is on selling pricier pieces privately as you never know what kind of person you are going to meet, but selling to a shop would mean big losses.
I already tried on the BB54 and liked it a lot, but just recently realized the writing for the depth rating on the dial is totally off (200m :660 ft <- spacing looks awful) and are not so sure about it any longer. The Rolex Explorer is perfection, but the price is actually out of my comfort zone and it is still unavailable anyway.

Tudor 36 and Casioak are definitely my favourites!
B. Speedy, Tank and Tudor + beater. All bases are covered!
Option C as it fits your style more and keep the BB36 untill you can swap for the exp

Right?! Why would I ever need anything else? ๐

Yeah had that on my mind as well and having a bit of FOMO, that the Explorer price might rise up to spheres beyond good and bad when I decide that Iโve gotta have it. ๐
I would say A The SBGX259 is a real looker and a bona fide GADA. The HAQ movement makes it even more compelling, due to its grab-and-go nature.
The Speedy and the Tank are rightfully untouchable, whereas the BB54 is a great replacement for the Oris and the BB36. That would be a really nice 4+1 watch collection and it would easily cover all needs and use cases.
C. Explorer, Tank and Speedy is a brilliant trio.
Why would you want to slim down your collection? Consider wearing 2 watches per week or a different watch everyday. I just want to collect them all.
Amazing collection ๐ maybe add a nice blue watch to it and it would become stunning!

Thats an absolut valid argument for that I have no proper answer. The only thing is I am feeling, that a smaller collection would be easier to handle and I could appreciate every piece a little more than I do now.

Thank you, much appreciated. ๐
The blue and green models from the Rolex Datejust 36 or IWC Mark XX are stunning - always thought those could be a nice addition. ๐ง
Fancy collection. I really like it ๐๐ฝ

Speedy Tank Explorer
Collection is fine. Enjoy it!
I have much respect for your discipline. I am planning on downsizing my collection as well. I would love to get it down to under 20. I have about 3x that many at present. As for selling without having to resort to a dealer and thus huge losses, try some enthusiast forums like WUS. That way you donโt get screwed by big commissions or fees like on chrono24 or eBay. Avoid those sites. You can also look on the WatchExchange on Reddit. It has a system that verifies transactions using a bot. If you deal with some who has dozens of verified transactions, itโs reasonably safe. Of course thereโs always some risk when selling online, and always check out the buyer/seller and ask lots of questions. But Iโve bought and sold many watches on there and never had an issue. Canโt say the same for Facebook, definitely avoid it.

Many thanks for your hints regarding selling. Still donโt know if I can do it, but those thoughts accompany for almost a year now. Guess I need to try on the BB54 and Explorer again a few times and see how I feel about it.
I've slimmed down my collection several times over the last 6.5 years, but I already know when I get the urge which ones need to go.
I downsized from 42 to 32. A watch every day for a month is probably the perfectly sized collection. If I were you I would get rid of anything that has a digital display and is over 40mm, but that's just personal taste

Wow, 32 watches is still an impressive amount!
Yeah one of my Casios will probably have to go soon, I just got the G-Shock square recently and mainly wear this as my rough and tough watch. Definitely need one for working on cars/bikes and working out.
My biggest watches are the Oris D65 at 40 mm and the Speedy at 42 which really does not wear any big. Can not go bigger than that with my twig wrists.
