NWA: modern looks, vintage size

36mm Tissot Seastar quartz. A rare modern addition to my mostly vintage assortment.

More dressy than toolish as it's quite a bright blue and there are lots of polished elements - hands, markers, glass bezel insert, metal bezel numbers, lug and crown guard tops. I would find it too blingy if it weren't for its smaller size and the neutral strap I've put it on. The bracelet has polished centre links and I find it's too shiny shiny.

Lume's pretty good. Can read the time at 6am no problem. I also like the symmetry from having the date window at 6.

I'm quite excited about tracking the movement's accuracy. It's an ETA precidrive, thermocompensated and vacuum-sealed against humidity. Typically runs at +/-10s/year.

Water resistance is 300m which is kind of hilarious overkill. Especially for a watch without a lume pip on the bezel which isn't even pretending to be useful to divers.

Price was £187 incl VAT. Equivalent to $190 before sales tax for US folk.

First thought that’s everything the new smaller Duro should be, with a corresponding Casio price.

It looks to be a great choice still. I’d like to see some brushing done though.

I'd also rather they'd brushed the top of the lugs and crown guards but they're pretty tiny so I'm not sure it would have made much difference - the watch is 90% dial and bezel.

The sides are brushed but it's so slim at 9.7mm that they're barely noticeable.

9.7 including the bezel?

How’s the seconds hand, being that’s quartz? Hits the marks, no wobbles?

Yes, 9.7mm top to bottom which makes it very comfy for me.

Seconds hand looks good to me. Very little backlash and well aligned.

Where did you find it so cheap? I’m seeing $400+

Ernest Jones in the UK. Been waiting for it to go on sale for a while.

I looked at these and was tempted by the watch and the precidrive, and I like a smaller diver, most are too big (for me). When I looked they were much more than that, may I ask where you got it?

Great watch, great movement. After servicing my Speedy and 1918 Elgin, I have developed a great appreciation for high quality quartz movements.

Ernest Jones in the UK. Had to be patient and it was a short-lived deal.

Same here. I recently realised that I need some grab and go quartz. Currently the Seastar and this 34mm gold Omega for dressy occasions.

Great choice! One of my favourites. Mine runs at less than a second a month deviation, which probably means better than 10s a year. I use it to set my mechanical watches.

Thanks! Great to hear about the accuracy. Given that I'll have to change it twice a year for DST it sounds like it's going to be with 5s all of the time.

I also use it and my radio controlled G shock to set my mechanical watches.

This was my first dive watch, and was a birthday gift from my in-laws. The 36mm is a fun size for a diver, and it looks great on a nato strap. The 300m resistance is definitely overkill given how hard this would be to see underwater 😂

It’s hard to photograph as well. A lot of the numbers on the bezel disappear depending on the angle
