Quartzimodo ๐ŸงŸ

This is my first Omega, first gold watch, first vintage swiss watch. In it sits a interesting in-house quartz (1370) from the time that not the production of most quartz was outsourced (ca. 1977/78).

The case is dinged and most of the brushing is gone. And the lume has for the most part fallen out of the minute hand. I have chosen to put it on a cheap gator/croco-strap (embossed) with a even cheaper buckle that matches the gold cased case. I even think the crown is a bit crooked ๐Ÿค”

But I love it ๐Ÿ˜ Having an old vintage quartz makes me a bit nervous, hearing all that jazz about quartz having short lifespans and being non-serviceable (not true BTW, depending on the movement).

Wearing beautifully at between 35-36mm ๐Ÿ‘Œ Having a wonderful brushed "silver" dial which has golden glow, but not yellow gold like a different dial option. And nicely finnished indecies.

I'm gonna buy a spare movement and a stem for future repairs if this becames a keeper. Only time will tell (aaaaaahh, the pun).

Mate gorgeous is the best way to describe your new watch. I love these old omega quartz watches, Iโ€™ve been on the hunt for a good one for a while now and I havenโ€™t given up yet. And yes, 100% you can get that thing serviced, itโ€™s not a cheap throw away quartz movement and would be well worth it. Youโ€™ll have to keep us posted on how the watch stands up over a bit of time ๐Ÿ‘

Found a movement in Germany somewhere ๐Ÿ˜… Don't know if I have the nerve to wait a long time to get it since they seem to be few and far between. Must increase the resell value (if I have a change of heart) to have the security of having a spare movement and then spare parts in the old movement if a change is needed?

Keep looking! These movements have some quirks with the changing of time, interesting stuff. I think they mention something about it in this article:

Cheers buddy, thanks for the link. You should definitely grab the spare movement while youโ€™ve got the chance, I can imagine theyโ€™d be hard to come by ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Gorgeus watch!!

I recently got my old grandfatherโ€™s Omega, it uses the 1337 quartz movement, itโ€™s the watch that made me aware of watches, the battery had died and they told him that it needed to be serviced in Switzerland, being from Chile, he decided that it was too much trouble at the time and that he would send it later; fast forward 30 years and I got it after he died, I had only heard of the watch but actually never seen it and was told numerous time that someday I should get a nice watch like my grandfather. I took it to service and all it needed was a battery change! (I donโ€™t really know if they were trying to scam him or if it was an honest mistake, since high end watch repair shops are hard to come by here). I got it on a Delugs Saffiano Strap and it has the original Omega Buckle. Although I never saw my grandfather wearing it, this will forever be his watch and every time I wear it, it reminds me of him.

I absolutely love the movement. The way you have to set the time is really quirky compared to modern quartz watches, the minutes are set pushing a hidden button that makes the hand turn somewhat fast and you have to stop pushing when you reach the actual minute, the hours jump by moving the crown and that is also how you set the date. It really shows they were trying to figure out everything back then.

Much like you I love the dial and how it wears, the case shape is very particular and Iโ€™ve never seen many watches like this one, also the vintage charm is really hard to explain unless you see it in person. ย

I hope you wear yours in good health and enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine!

Thanks โ˜บ๏ธย

The button on the crown seems a bit slow on mine. Thought it was broken at first because it gives in easily then has some resistance. But there was a "click" feel when I stoped being afraid of pushing too hard. Then it worked ๐ŸŽ‰

Our watches looks the same on many details except the caseshape. Must be cool to be left something like that from a relative! Take care of it!!

We can all make bad judgements from time to time... But I'll forgive you this time ๐Ÿ˜—

No, but really. Brown is a real granpa combo on this one and goldmilanese a bit too ladylike. And I wanted to make it a bit over the top, this being a gold watch (I even considered mint green). Blue is a contender, but most of my watches are blue to some degree. Pink? Burgundy? A bit TOOO much? And little to close to brown? Maybe red for X-mas if I still got it by then?
