Favorite G-Shock?

We know it’s an enthusiast staple and I’m in the market for another one.

  1. Do you think G-Shock is worth the hype? [Stirring the pot tonight.]

  2. If so, what’s your favorite? With pics, if you have ‘em.

Whenever I go to the local watch store, I check them out. My problem is, there are so many I like that I can’t decide what (if any) to actually buy!

Yes, H5600-2

I think they're worth the hype I usually see, which is that they're tough to kill and solid value for money. The design and sizing concerns are up to preference. These are the three I own, and I wouldn't trade any of them for any others.

Is there an app to keep a record of the heart rate tracking?

Not sure about hype, but they really are great watches.

Absolutely! After destroying multiple Fitbits my GShock dreams were answered 😁

Absolutely worth the hype. My favorite watch in my entire collection is a Tough Solar G Shock my son saved his recycling money for and purchased it for my Birthday . Name the watches : Rolex, Cartier, Panerai, Omega. Take em' all. That GShock never leaves me

I wish I had some cool pic of me on duty wearing a G Shock back in the day. Or something that was issued to me. For the record, a G Shock looks better on you than any other I've seen.

The Red G Shock is my favorite. I gave one to my son when he first started training to be a lifeguard. My son has always had a thing for helping others. His life goal is Naval Aviator. He will always be a lifeguard in his heart. I can make him out in a pack of open water swimmers because of his watch. If he's surfing on a board with no distinguishing details I know it's him. I guess I'd know anyway but that red G Shock is him. He's my hero so here's a pic of him and his red G Shock

I'm not a fan of digital but the Casioak is IMO the best looking G-Shock.

Which 3 do you recommend?

See if you like any of these - they are 160 at Casio directly but in some places you can find them for 140 or so too

How often do you have to charge those?

How often do you have to charge those?

I only use mine indoors (home gym) so I don’t take advantage of the solar…maybe 2 weeks?

Durability was the top factor for me…it’s perfect for outdoor activities

Not sure if they are worth the hype. But I own two that are worth the money.

A red Casioak

And a turquoisish square G

I think most G Shocks are worth the hype. They're excellent watches. Most of the limited edition/collaboration/exotic materials models are just for people who really like the collab IP or the die-hard G Shock collectors.

I try to be careful about G Shocks because there are so many cool and colorful designs it's easy to fall down the rabbit hole! Thankfully, having a small wrist helps temper that urge.

I've learned that I like my digitals square, so the classic G square appeals to me most. I do have a round G Squad that has all the timing features you'd ever need in a workout watch, but I don't think I'd buy another round G. The other thing I look for is multi-band or Bluetooth. It's such a cool timekeeping feature that's hard to find outside of G Shocks, so it seems a shame not to have it!

Lately, I've been exploring the JDM Baby Gs and I might actually get myself in trouble! 😂 I picked up their smallest G, and I'm in love with it! Having a G Shock that fits like a field watch is amazing, and it really brings G Shock toughness into the realm of real everyday wear for me.

As much as I love my other watches, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, I'm grabbing a G Shock and the undead can have the rest. They really are everything you could need for reliable time-keeping for life.

Here's mine:

Image

GMD-B800SC - A G Squad model. Full suite of workout timers, step counting and Bluetooth. This used to be my work G.

Image

GWB5600BC - This is using Casio's top tier module with all the bells and whistles. Tough Solar, Multi-band 6, Bluetooth, always on auto-light, and it came on a combi bracelet. This was Casio's best bang for buck, pre-U series update. I still see no need to get a U series.

Image

BGD-5650 - My new baby! 38mm diameter and 43mm lug to lug makes it well-proportioned for small wrists. It feels like wearing a vintage digital. A bit bigger than the F91w and about the same size as a Timex T80. Visually, it wears even smaller than the dimensions suggest. Tough Solar and Multi-band 6. No auto light, which I miss, but can live with. "Only" 100m WR, but that's honestly more than enough. Casio is stepping up their JDM Baby Gs and I could definitely see another one in my future.

Oh my gosh! That Baby G fits soooo well. I’m going to check those out for sure. Thanks!

I know, right?! 😍 I'm obsessed!

It's the perfect size for anyone with a wrist around or under 6". There's also a slightly bigger Baby-G, the BGD-5000 at 40mm, that would be spot on for the 6" to 7" range. That one keeps the 200m WR. Both are great options if a standard square is a bit too much chonk.

Last I checked, Sakura Watches had all the colors of these multi-band Baby squares.

Yes I do👍
