Why is Code 11.59 controversial?

I went into Boutique with an Idea that anything more than 38mm would be too large for my wrist. I am still getting the 37mm Royal Oak at some point, but I never thought the 41mm watch would fit my 17cm so well. Not sure why Codes get so much hate, of course not everything will be as epix as the Royal Oak, but it is still good to have something that has a different shape.

They were just anticlimactic. I wasn't around for the buildup, but people were surely expecting something somewhat revolutionary and they got something mild.

Supposedly it is one of those watches that look much better in person. I wouldn't know.

Often seen as the gateway to the Royal oak. Not a in house caliber. Can get pre owned in the 15 K range easily.

·

Forget what I just said. It goes for more than 15k. My bad

To me, one of the best looking watches there is.

Interesting, I wasn’t into watches when they launched. I was not aware it was hyped up so much.

I don't know if I can blame the company, but people had expectations. The first I heard of it was the mocking of the name.

Hahaha :) yeah the Name is a bit Cheesy :) but it is easy to forget what it stands for.

  1. The inevitable comparison to a 50-year-old iconic design that is basically what people think of when they think AP.

  2. The first models were somewhat underwhelming. Yes, they looked way, way better in person, especially the case, the intricacies of which are not revealed in your typical dial facing promo photo. But they had fairly restrained dials with questionable font choices and divisive 4:30 date windows. They read as inelegant attempts at dress watches, half-heartedly minimal. But, to their credit (which I am reluctant to give), AP stepped things up in these areas and made significant changes that I think were very effective. If I had that kind of money to throw around, I'd pick up one at a discount, enjoy the heck out of it, and conservatively bet on the value going up as the initial backlash fades away.

Same here, it is one of best looking watches and don't know why all the hate. Previous version lacked some refinment, latest versions are excellent

I don't mind 1159-s at all. I actually quite like them

·

The Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore were also blasted when they first debuted. It's a good sign for the future of the Code 11.59 😀

·

I love Code 11.59

Better looking than a Royal Oak, IMO

Thanks I am enjoying it a lot. It will be interesting what happens to the whole line. New CEO might be taking AP in a new direction, we'll see.

Maybe it's only me, but the Code 11.59 Ultra-Complication looks like a frowning angry robot face 🙈.

The only thing I’d change on them would be the logo I’d prefer the AP logo but apart from that it’s a beautiful watch I can’t understand why they aren’t more popular than they are
