And while I'm intrigued by bronze divers I'm conscious I'll very probably never actually get one, outside of divers I just don't see myself considering itโฆ

I am very happy with the build quality of my Laco and would recommend it.
One note since you mentioned customization - when a watch brand is available via retail/AD I always prefer this option instead of direct via brand website, to build a relationship with the shop and to have a more personal option in case of issues. I bought mine here in Milano and be advised that with the two customizations I requested (the metal bracelet and the upgraded movement) it took me two months to receive it :)

You're absolutely correct, I do (I did mention it ๐).
If they were a new kid on the block they'd give off the same vibe as those Alix brands with fake Euro names. Like "Lobinni Interlaken". Japan has a rich culture of aesthetics and visual communication. It's a pity they used such a goofy logo.
It's not math with its harsh certainties. It's communication and semiotics, and is subject to human interpretation. Seiko is fortunate that, to a non native speaker, it has no significance and does not sound goofy. Orient does have a meaning, as does the graphic in the logo, and the two clash in direct opposition of meaning.
