Crown Lumes. Are you a fan? Yes/No and why?

The next two watches in production at NSB Watch are the Apollo and the Canaveral. Both are automatic timepieces and I decided that both should have lumed crowns because…why not? the side view watch pictured is the Apollo, and I’ll discuss more about it in a future post.
So, what are your thoughts, if any, on crowns with Lumes?

Craziness!  I didn't even know that could be a thing!

·

Well I’m glad I inadvertently taught you something lol

·

personally I would avoid unsealed lumed crown watches as they would age quite poorly. unless they somehow got glass or something over it to protect it from use

Interesting fact.. I like that, thank you. I’ll bring it up to the team.

To me, this falls into "Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD." territory.

I'm not sure I see a functional purpose for it, like fake rivets. Maybe I'm just not imaginative enough.

Is there a functional use case for this?

·

I guess it looks ok, but it serves no purpose at all.

·

Why? Why? So that you don't lose the crown of sight to set a watch in the middle of the night?

·

I never thought about that. But now I am wondering - Why should a crown be lumed.
As it is pointles it has to be for the asthetics.

·

I would just offer up the Tag 4000 as a counter argument to doing this - the enamel logo and lume on the bezel never lasted that long, so anything involving the case and lume exposed to the elements is a poor combination resulting in a very sad looking watch.

I’ve got a couple of watches with lumed crowns and I think they’re pretty cool.

Yeah I like it if it's done really well with a nice simple logo/ motife . I would be warry of it falling out I guess.

·

I wouldn't hate it but I think it looks out of place and too decorative.

Not a big issue though.

·

I wouldn't be willing to pay anything extra for it, and I'm going to assume that it costs more for you to include it.

·

oh yes it’s more material and labor to paint the lume in the groove.

Yes I’m this case it’s painted in the etched logo.
