Justifying our watch hobby. ⌚️⌚️⌚️

Collecting watches is heavy on the pocket and unnecessary in life. BUT it is worth it and important!. 😎

How do you justify or defend our hobby? To yourself, to your spouse, to other people. 🤓

I'll start:

  • It is a break from life's seriousness 🤗

  • It enhances my attention to detail 🤪

Help expand this list by commenting below please. We need this to mitigate our watch affliction. 😂

I don't really feel the need to justify anything to anyone. I do me.

Good for you. 🫡 How do you justify to yourself?

I buy what I like. It's as simple as that. 😊

·

More on enjoying primarily rather than justifying. It's self discipline really esp. with the costs involved, as long as it doesn't compromise our finances (education, mortgages, etc)

·

It depends on how you justify it … 1. You love them and find yourself just admiring them alone at night … caressing them … whispering “my precious” … 2. You TELL your wife it’s an investment and you could be into the next Rolex Kermit or Daytona … 3. You tell yourself or ALL the sales people telling you that you can flip it and buy something else later down the line and that for a certain period of time you’ll ONLY be paying for A SMALL comparative amount to enjoy flexing 4. I’m a hoarder … I can’t justify

So you haven't bought anything that hurt the pocket?

Hahaha perfect answer! And I agree.. we can't justify. 😂

No, not really. I don't go into debt to purchase a watch, if that's what you mean. All my purchases were either from funds I'd been setting aside or from disposable income. If it's something I want but can't afford, I either save up for it or reconsider the purchase.

Not really debt. That is dangerous. 🛑

Now I get what you mean! Your simple rules are 💯.

But I suggest you break your rules sometimes.. to make the hobby more exciting and thrilling. Haha. 😎

My girlfiend gets tattoos, i get watches. Both unnecessary and expensive but we like them 😆

·

I buy a little at a time with disposable income. I also save. No wife/girlfriend and daughter is full grown. Thing is, WHEN WILL I STOP???!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤔 There are so many great watches out there. It's hard to say no.

·

Simple... I refuse to accept the reality of others and therefore substitute my own. 😎

·

Its for work , bether legebility and so on....its deep that damm hole 🕳️.😐

  1. A hobby is just that... a hobby. It's nothing serious nor significant in the scheme of things, and in contrast to what really matters in life. So, no need to justify it really. BUT...

  2. Hobbies for me, are also helpful and complementary to developing myself as a person. Watching good movies, reading classic literature and contemporary novels, traveling, and photography-- these all expand my personality and character. They add color and spice when life becomes gray and mundane. I have yet to start on kitesurfing, hiking/ mountain climbing, spelunking, and bird watching.

  3. There's learning and fun, excitement and thrill, and regular doses of distraction, when engaged in a hobby.

  4. Finally, these dang watches are captivating and gorgeous! For us men, we have always been drawn by the beauty and engineering ingenuity. They also make us men really look put together when worn well on wrist.

Cheers to all!

No justification needed! People collect expensive cars, homes, support toxic addictions, etc. Watches are just another thing and they're fun.

·

I like looking at them on my wrist.

Justified! 👨‍⚖️

I literally work day and night almost every day in my various capacities and I have to engage and care for my 15 year old twin daughters half the days as I share custody. And I have great relationship with a great woman. Watches have literally given me something that I do for me, that makes me very happy and places no obligation on me.

Cool man. Thanks for sharing this!

I appreciate mechanical watches because they pulling me out from the hypertechnological world we have to deal with.

It it is just nostalgia for simpler times?

I don't have an exhaustive answer.

A reminder of old school in the age of technology! Makes sense! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Justification? Let's see.

Retired with adequate income and savings. You can't take it with you. I'm not going to live forever. 😎

Yolo!

No Justification to addiction….

It’s unhealthy!! Repent sinners… repent!!

😱😵‍💫🥴

I'm sorry! Hahhaha

I collect watches, my wife collects Camellia bushes and we support each other's hobby. I help her plant and she pretends to "ooo" and "aah" when I announce one of my numerous watch changes during the day. 😂

Oooohhhh! Aahhhh. Hahaha. Your wife is 💯!

I think I have bought a few watches recently because at this point in time I’m experiencing a few hurdles and a simple watch transaction lifts me up and keeps me smiling within. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t buy anything if life was perfect. Just a lot less, me thinks!

You'll get by those hurdles! 🤗

·

Long as you enjoy it and can afford it. Don't see any issues with the hobby

·

Mate, you don’t have a collection.. You have a museum!

Jokes aside, if affordability is not an issue, watch collecting is a much more space efficient hobby than many others (e.g., model kits, figurines).

·

I can't really justify it. I just tell my wife at least I am not into drugs and prostitutes. Although it might be cheaper!

·

I don't feel I need to justify it much like stamp, rock, or butterfly collectors dont. Just basically it gives me pleasure to collect these little machines, each beautiful in its own way.

·

I just show my wife collections like yours, makes me look very restrained 😂😂(p.s. thank you for your service 🫡)

Agree with space! Easy to organize a watch collection. 💯

Btw, photo is just for attention haha. Not my museum. Haha.

Photo above is not my collection. It is just for illustration haha.

But use it anytime to help justify our hobby to your wife. Haha. 😂
