Baume and Mercier…thoughts?

I’m wondering why this brand isn’t more popular. Saw a Riviera model recently and thought it was very cool. Fit and finish was nice, good specs…what gives?

I'm not the most knowledgeable enthusiast by far however my impression is that they're fairly unfocused design and tier wise and don't have a standout signature watch of their own.

They borrow some of the more popular looks in the industry then stuff them with unremarkable movements including cheaper quartz. Having said that there are a few I find attractive but not enough to beat out the competition.

Nobody thinks about B+M as they aren't greasing the publicity wheels.

I saw a similar post a few weeks ago. I agree with @PoorMansRolex, they're not spending on adverts or publicity at all. They've had a 5 day COSC certified movement in their Clifton and some of the Rivieras since 2018. Only recently has IWC started to use the same movement in the new Ingenieur. I think their Clifton is very similar to the Tissot Gentleman in looks, but with a higher end movement and a step up in fit and finish. I think it would make a killer daily watch. Just wish I would have heard about them before I got all these other watches.

I would say due to many reasons but IMO main are no pillar piece/line that somewhat defines the brand, quite generic/homage designs across the board, not enough marketing and not being proud of their heitage, no clue from Richemont what to do with them ... And they are competing in most saturated market segment without any differentiating proposal that would seperate them from the comps

Popular with some guys!
