Hermes x Jaeger LeCOULTURE

I went out exploring NYC this past weekend after the rains had passed. I stumbled upon a jewelry store near Rockefeller Center and saw this in the window. Everyone knows my heart beats for a vintage #cartier (long live the Santos!) but this #jaegerlecoultre is stunning to me.

Suffice it to say, the $15K sticker put it outside of my watch purchasing comfort area, but certainly whet my appetite. l'll gladly find some other similar styled pieces to scratch this newly found itch.

Sooo, who else makes a 6 o'clock crown on a small square case?

Did they tell you anything about it? Age? Etc?

I looked. $15k is way too high for that. That’s a $6-7k watch. Nice watch though. Really nice.

It's supposed to be from the "golden era" of Hermes when the Birken bag was created. I was looking for a birth year Santos ('78), its supposedly from that same era.

Brand: Hermes

Model: Vintage

Reference: 9021.42

Year: 1970s

Material: Steel

Dial Color: Original Silver with Hermes Signature

Dimensions: 29.2 X 34.5mm

Watch Movement: Manual-Wind

I'd imagine you wind it at the start of the day when it's off the wrist. That's what I'd do. The crown was large enough to grasp between the lugs.

Yeah, I was hoping that Vario was at the Wind Up show, but I didn't see them. Really wanted to see this one in person. Good rec, Its on my shortlist.

I think the only thing people quibble about is the height (12mm) for the size of the watch.

My wife who is not a watch person would love to own that watch but 15kusd is a lot of loot, also we are Canadian, so that is a really expensive watch.

That guy totaly bamboozeled you. First, the Birkin bag was released in 1984. Second, Hermes of that time had no savoir-faire in watchmaking. Hence the fact they cosigned their watches with jlc, corum, Eterna or UG.

Hermes' watchmaking debut starts from 1978 when they started to invest in watchmaking capability.

To me their 'golden era' is to be found after 2006 when they took 25% of Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. They can nowadays integrate beautiful movements to their beautiful case design.

Tldr, your watchseller is just surfing the Hermes vibe, selling a watch 5 times its worth.

I think most jewelry store "professionals" are in the business of high mark-ups and impulse buying on the part of the consumer. This is why I'll do my due diligence, every time I make a significant purchase. And to be clear, the jeweler (not my watch seller) tried to bamboozle me! Lol

Looks like an interesting one. Agree the price is off, but this could be a good an unusual one to add. It has a similar crown placement to the Versa, but very different dimension and vibe. BTW the Versa crown is at 12 - there’s actually a crown on each side. So, this one is still unique in that!
