Generally, we as modern men are descendants of the hunter-gathers that ruled the planet for a million years. We used to fight for food, water, women and territory. Now we fight for deals, original designs and status.
I think its a part of our hard wiring.
Since we now don't need to go out and find food and firewood any more, we find and collect stuff.
Watches, knifes, guns, hats, cars, toys.... all kinds of stuff.
As long as we can keep a roof over our heads and food in our families bellies, I think it all fine.
If it cost more than a grand, I keep track of when, where, how much and my overall feeling about the transaction experience.

I've been pestering the local AD's (Vegas) for a Milguass Blue, but at retail they are impossible to find (20-30% over RRP for a full kit, used). I've been asking for 2 years. Right now the OP41 BLK is down to $7,500 in places, making it very near retail price on the secondary market. As soon as I find a sub-$8K price from a dealer I know I'll buy it.
