I've been trending towards white/silver dials lately. It's a pretty versatile color and can be a bit more interesting to look at than black, though I do appreciate a nice black dial as well.
High contrast, so white or silver with black hands is apparently preferred for my daily watch. I have three default "beater" daily watches.
I'm constantly amazed by how easily I can read this Seiko in extremely low light, despite the hands being so thin and elegant. The dark outlines help:
And this Invicta has orange hands but with black outlines, which does make a huge difference in catching the eye. Instantly readable:
And this Timex, another daily watch, has a white dial with black hands:
I never thought about dial color for my daily "beater" until your post. Just learned something about myself that I've never noticed, thanks! 🤝 (That's why I said "apparently" in my opening statement.) I wonder if it's because I'm getting older and something that has a higher contrast is easier to see?
Dial color is important but I do not have a favorite. I have white, black, orange, blue, green, silver, gold... black goes with anything, though, so that is something. Had you asked a year ago, I would have said Orange without batting an eye.
