Confusing Dealers

I am getting married in September, and as a wedding present  I am intending on buying my fiancé a ladies Tag Aquaracer. She puts up with me talking about watches most days and even travelled up with me to try an get a MoonSwatch and despite us getting up stupidly early and coming away empty handed she didn't complain. I also thought it would be sweet as a Tag was my "gateway drug" into this madness we call a hobby.

I called up a couple of dealers and asked about the availability and if they would be willing to do a deal. I have never paid full price for a TAG and, somewhat arrogantly, refuse to due to the fact TAG make over 1 million watches per year and its a quartz movement so not difficult to manufacture. When speaking with the dealer she told me it would not be possible due to the demand of the watch and with it being a new line they wouldn't do a deal. She specifically stated the demand for ladies Aquaracer was high as she was having to wait "weeks" for her order.  She then ended the call by saying to me "If you change your mind let me know we have two in store". I was confused, because if demand was so high how do you have multiple models of this watch? Also I don't mind waiting weeks. I have till September to collect. Additionally, that is significantly less than waiting times for other watches out there. I know the luxury watch market is doing well but not every brand is comparable to Rolex etc. 5 years ago you always used to be able to haggle on certain brands.

I don't know am I stuck in old times?

I think you'd have a better job in person. I'd go into the AD, handle the watches and say you're ready and willing to buy but the price just needs to be a bit more tempting, and let them know what you'd pay. It'll make you look like a more serious buyer then some chancer trying to grab a bargain on the phone.

I find most dealers will not move on the phone, but Tag is not getting MSRP for their watches these days (most of them), but especially those in the ladies' line. I would pop in start at 25% off and work your way up.

You can also try Jomashop, etc.
