Not too long ago I reviewed a watch from GUANQIN, which I still consider a good bargain. The sunburst effect was nice, but machining marks were visible where they shouldn't be, under the right light.
(The dial was also a bit large.) I know this is a first world problem, but it bugged me.
Now...I am working from home today, and I had a boring meeting I could just listen to over lunch. A shipment from AliExpress also had just arrived.
So, I pulled the movement from the Guanqin, reused the hands from a Chinese watch I had previously modded, and a Barton Strap I had previously used. I combined them with a new case and dial from AliExpress. I turned out to be somewhat of a race against time, especially the fitting and cutting of the watch stem at the end. But I got it done. 😎
Not sure if I'll keep the strap, but I'm quite pleased, or at least amused.
